KORENGAL: The Story Continues

VA Healthcare a deadly disgrace

Can anyone explain to me why Eric Shinseki is not slithering out of Washington while jeering crowds line the streets and throw garbage at him? That is an easy call and the sooner the better, but who is actually responsible and accountable for this? Where does the buck actually stop? President Obama gave his stock "I am shocked that my administration is criminally incompetent and I just heard about this on TV" speech yesterday. That happens to be a lie since there is ample evidence that he has known of this problem since the day he took office.

President Obama’s transition team was warned in 2008 that repeated audits showed the Veterans Affairs Department was misreporting wait times for medical treatment, including one audit revealing delays nearly 10 times worse than the department was officially acknowledging.

That was six years ago and the President deployed some powerful rhetoric.

"No veteran should have to fill out a 23-page claim to get care, or wait months -- even years -- to get an appointment at the VA."

Bravo, so how did that work out?

in 2009, Obama was back before the VFW delivering a similar pledge: "cut those backlogs, slash those wait times, deliver your benefits sooner." The newly-elected president said that he planned to announce a competition among the VA's branch offices to come up with new ways of doing business, the best of which would be quickly funded and implemented.

So I am sure that the always innovative bureaucracy of Leviathan jumped right on that and showed why a nimble, responsive government run health care system is just what this country needs, right? Oh wait, nope. Instead administrators and other petty bureaucrats falsified stats and let wounded, sick and dying vets languish and yes die.

The VA Healthcare system is everything that proponents of Obamacare and completely government run healthcare ever asked for. There are no insurance companies, no competition, they can limit the things they treat and they own the doctors. It is the model for what they have been telling us we need. And yet in practice it is everything opponents ever said it would be and worse. You don't even need death panels if you just pretend to treat patients and let them die.

If you support Obamacare or government healthcare, I have one simple question: Why would it be any better than the VA Healthcare system?
