Kickstarter, Sponsorship, & Advertising

Oh my!  Putting most of this below the fold so as to keep the focus on Murph and news, but below is information on sponsorships, advertising, and my Kickstarter project.  If you are interested in advertising, sponsorship, or more, read on!

Operation Normandy:

Blackfive author C. Blake Powers (Laughing Wolf ) has the opportunity to attend the 2013 Normandy landing commemoration ceremonies. This will include posts and videos, and discussions are underway for what may be an unprecidented access to events and individuals. His work will build on his extensive feature writing experience as well as on previous visits to Normandy and with veterans. More information on Blake can be found here and links to previous work can be found at that site as well.

There are four levels of sponsorship available: Estate Reserve, Prime, Choice, and Select.

Estate Reserve $5,000.00
Limited to a single company or organization, this level is (essentially) the sole sponsor for a year, with no other sponsors being sought or accepted.
They will have logo and link on all posts, and in addition to a standard credit on videos, there is the option to have all videos feature a logo and “XXX presents” at the start. In addition, this sponsor will receive promotion in new and social media, as well as other considerations as possible.

Prime $3,500
Limited to no more than three companies or organizations. Prime sponsors will get up to 8 seconds of logo/name at the end of all videos, lead position in credits on stories posted to Blackfive (position to be determined by when they become sponsors), and push in new and social media before the event. In the event there are two or more prime sponsors, no Choice or new Select sponsors will be accepted after that date.

Choice $2,500
Limited to no more than 4 companies or organizations. Choice sponsors will have position in credits following Prime but ahead of select in both written posts and videos, and video credits will be of shorter duration than Prime. There will be promotion in new and social media as well.

Select $1,000
Limited to no more than 6 companies or organizations. Select sponsors will receive credits after all other sponsors in posts and videos, and the credits will be shorter than those given to either Prime or Choice sponsors. They will receive more limited promotion in new and social media.

NOTE
Currently, there are two select sponsors for 2013 that will receive text credit on all videos and posts related to Normandy.

General Media Information/Advertising on Blackfive:

Blackfive is an award-winning milblog (online military magazine) that focuses on providing accurate and in-depth international coverage of military activities and stories of interest to a military/military-focused audience. Formed in 2003 by Matthew “Matt” Burden (MAJ, AUSA retired) to honor a friend and comrade killed in the line of duty by telling his story, and the other stories not being told in traditional media. It operates on four tenets:

• Supporting the Military

• Caring for the Wounded

• Remembering the Fallen

• Honoring the Sacrifices

The site has more than 25 million visits and more than 38 million page views. Currently, it is averaging more than 5,000 visits per day and more than 7,000 page views per day (exlcuding affiliated video and distribution channels). In addition, more than 15,000 additional readers have chosen to receive content via e-mail. While the majority of readers are from the United States, there is significant readership from Europe, Austrailia, and the Far East.

The content attracts an audience interested in authoritative discussion of military-related matters, from current operations to entertainment. The team of contributors includes almost every branch of service, with a number of them having served in Iraq and Afghanistan; and, the site has sent embeds to the Philippines with Special Forces as well as to Iraq with the Army and Marines. Plans are underway to expand the embed program worldwide and to include Allied forces.

While site-specific demographics are not available, a Nielsen survey done done for a media network with which Blackfive was affiliated found that the following general audience statistics apply:

• 80% male

• 77% are 24- to 54-years-old

• 40% postgraduate degree/work

• 74% own a home

• 60% income above $75,000.00

• 81% employed full-time

• 45% work in companies with 2,000 or more employees

• 10% own or are considering buying a hybrid car

• 9% are CEO/COO and C-level executives

A 2009 survey done for SOGMedia of its affiliated sites appears to confirm those figures, showing a readership that was approximately 84% male, 92 percent being 26 years-of-age or older, 52 percent having a bachelor degree or higher (24 % Master’s or higher), and 57% having an income of $80,000.00 or higher.

While specific figures are not available, it is known that Blackfive has significant readership within the upper echelons of the defense industry, the Department of Defense, and the Executive and Legistlative branches of government. It is also recognized that major media monitors the site, and that foriegn governmental and corporate leadership follow the site.

Audience demographics and page views are only part of the story. Influence is measured in a number of ways, and no matter how you measure it, Blackfive has reach and impact.  Technorati provides Blackfive with a 1 rating, it’s highest. Within that, it is rated as one of the top 100 most authoratitive sites for U.S. politics and for entertainment.  The Truth Laid Bare Ecosystem consistently rated Blackfive as one of the top 50 most-read blogs, and other site rating systems continue to show that it remains not just a leader within the military field, but in all blogs.  The Blackfive video channel has more than 6 million video views alone; and, individual author sites provide more than 2 million additional views.
