Navy SEAL Memorial will soon be a reality

Reader Lisa sends this reminder about the upcoming dedication of the UDT SEAL Memorial:

I found an old notice on Black Five asking people to support the UDT SEAL Memorial. Since that posting back in 2008, the Memorial has become a reality. The dedication will happen this Veterans Day Weekend on November 7. In hopes that this may be of interest to your site visitors, I am attaching a press release about an upcoming Muster event honoring US Navy SEALS/UDT members. The event gives people an opportunity to learn about their training, the work they do, and their achievements. The National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum in Ft. Pierce Florida will host its annual “Muster”. The event is open to the public and also attracts many current and former Team members. Events include:

* 5K race/walk
* A two-mile parachute drop by the Leapfrogs U.S. Navy Parachute Team
* A demonstration commando raid and helicopter assault
* A chance to meet two SEAL Congressional Medal of Honor recipients

The two day-event over Veterans Day Weekend (November 6 and 7) will culminate with the dedication of the UDT-SEAL Memorial.

Fort Pierce, FL August 3, 2010 – The National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum will unveil and dedicate the UDT-SEAL Memorial this year at the Museum’s 25th Annual Veterans Day Ceremonies (“Muster”) on November 7, at 10AM. The UDT-SEAL Memorial, located at the National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum, is the only Memorial in the world dedicated exclusively to the United States Navy SEALs and their predecessors.

Each year on Veterans Day weekend (this year, it is November 6), the National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum hosts its annual “Muster”. This event, now in its 25th year, is a staple of the area. This year, the Museum will dedicate the Navy SEAL Memorial, which feature the names of each Frogman who has given their life in the line of duty. Many relatives of these valiant and selfless individuals will be in attendance for this unique and historical occasion.

The Memorial features a centerpiece designed by world famous artist Roy Shifrin, who drew his inspiration from the legacy of the SEALs and their frogman traditions.  This centerpiece, cast entirely in bronze, is set upon a pedestal in a small pool. This unique masterpiece symbolizes the elements (Sea, Air, Land) in which the Navy SEALs operate and serves as a central point of reflection upon the sacrifices of the families of these fallen heroes.

The National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum is the only museum dedicated solely to preserving the history of the Navy SEALs and their predecessors, including the Underwater Demolition Teams, Naval Combat Demolition Units, Office of Strategic Services Maritime Units and Amphibious Scouts and Raiders. Located in Fort Pierce, Florida - the birthplace of the Navy Frogman - the Museum promotes public education by providing the opportunity to explore the history of the Navy SEALs in an atmosphere of respect and honor.
