Another Lioness - CPL Helen Ruhl Awarded BRonze Star for Valor
Wednesday, April 21, 2010
From FT Carson Public Affairs:
FORT CARSON, Colo. — Cpl. Helen Ruhl, a 4th Infantry Division Soldier, will receive the Bronze Star Medal with Valor device for exceptionally valorous actions while under enemy fire during an awards ceremony Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. at Pershing Field.
Brig. Gen. James Pasquarette, deputy commanding general, support, 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson, will present the medal.
Ruhl, a combat medic who was assigned to 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, earned the award when her convoy came under attack in eastern Afghanistan on the evening of Sept. 24, 2009.
Wounded, and disregarding her own safety, Ruhl applied tourniquets to an injured comrade, examined her team, and supervised the application of life-saving medical treatment while laying down suppressive fire.
Ruhl was medically evacuated to the U.S. and spent several months recovering at Brooke Army Medical hospital at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.
I will add the citation once I see one. One word for this combat medic...
Warrior.
