Tribunals for Terrorists
Thursday, December 10, 2009
The press conference for H.R. 4127 that would amend the Military Commissions Act of 2009 to make it mandatory that all alien unprivileged enemy belligerents stand trial in a constitutionally established military commission rather than a civilian court, was this morning at the Supreme Court. The most compelling speaker was Cully Stimson.
His credibility on this issue is huge and he mad a number of very important points. I hope this bill gets legs as otherwise we have handed the terrorists a victory they didn't earn.Charles "Cully" D. Stimson is a leading expert in criminal law, military law, military commissions and detention policy at The Heritage Foundation's Center for Legal and Judicial Studies. <
Before joining Heritage in 2007 as a Senior Legal Fellow, Stimson served as the Deputy Assistant Defense Secretary for Detainee Affairs, where he advised the Secretary of Defense on detainee issues worldwide, including at Guantanamo Bay, Iraq and Afghanistan...
Stimson is a decorated military veteran and continues to serve as a Judge Advocate General (JAG) reservist in the Navy. He is currently a Commander and serves as a military judge.>
