h/t Allah “What would have happened if Obama’s bill had passed? There is no way to know for sure, but it seems likely that, facing less resistance, Al Qaeda in Iraq would have continued to gain strength, the fragile Iraqi Security Forces would have collapsed, as would the fragile Iraqi government, militias would have flourished–and the United States would have departed under fire, accepting a humiliating defeat in the war against al Qaeda that would have reverberated globally.
For any voter trying to choose between the two candidates for commander in chief, there is no better test than this: When American strategy in a critical theater was up for grabs, John McCain proposed a highly unpopular and risky path, which he accurately predicted could lead to success. Barack Obama proposed a popular and politically safe route that would have led to an unnecessary and debilitating American defeat at the hands of al Qaeda.”
Barack Obama likes to make a big point out of the fact that he was against the war when being against the war wasn't cool. If you are going to be fair he has been consistent although his statements to radical lefties in 2002 hardly exposed him to much political danger. When his self-vaunted judgment comes into question is once US troops were committed to war by a vast majority of Congress and he joined that body. Since then he has been extremely consistent and that is consistently wrong. It was one thing to say invading Iraq and deposing Saddam was unwise and that is a reasonable position to have taken. Once we already deposed him and were in the process of turning chaos and hatred into freedom, calling for retreat in the face of several of our enemies was and still is exceedingly bad judgment.
That bad judgment is shared by his rabid legions of supporters and we just can't afford to have these naifs destroy what the blood of our friends has bought. If Barack Obama has said anything wise or comprised of sound judgment I have missed it. He seems to feel that the evil tyrants he would treat with are likely to swoon for his Lightworker powers like the American and Euro left and their PR flacks the old media. The age of Obamius will render all previous beefs irrelevant, not just cats and dogs, but Jews and Muslims living together, ocean levels dropping, Gaia healing, a Progressive Paradise, and then Iran will finish it's bomb and blow up Tel Aviv. Well Actually the Israelis will realize a President Obama will be no help and so as usual will take out the Iranian nukes themselves.
We really need 4 more years of adult leadership internationally before we can turn the keys back over to the sweetness and light crowd. Some solid consolidation and progress in Iraq and the understanding that it was a victory is vital to creating a more stable region. Barack Obama has used his judgment to recommend and campaign for our defeat by al Qaeda and Iran. That kind of judgment is not something we can afford to have making the tough decisions that await our next leader. I don't have much interest in following Obama off the cliff.
