Playing fair with the other team
Wednesday, September 19, 2007
My cred for dealing with the "loyal" opposition is pretty well established. I'm nowhere near nice in my commentary on progressive views, but I spend more time engaging their views tolerantly than most, often in person. Madison is a renowned sanctuary of liberalism in all it's variants. Now any of us even a step right of center are continually vilified by the left as haters and usually most unfairly. Charles from Little Green Footballs is a perfect example. For pointing out the many violences of the Religion of Peace he is slandered as a hater. This is usually accompanied by cherry-picked comments from LGF without any notice that it is not Charles writing, or that the comments are unmoderated and labeled as such. That is completely unfair and rightly condemned.
Charles should play as fair as he requests though, if only to maintain the actual moral high ground. He takes a Daily Kos diary that says what many there certainly think:
Daily Kos: I Don’t Support the Troops..oops, there, I said it
Until we have another draft, this is a volunteer armed services. I am not even beginning to count the numerous mercenaries that are involved in the occupation. You signed up, you get to go to the desert and risk being shot at by brown skinned people who don’t believe the lies you’ve been told. A war of aggression is immoral, period. If you believe in God, you can damned well be sure you are going to hell for your participation in it. The only troop I support is the man or woman who refuses to be deployed so that they can make the middle east accessible to profiteers who don’t give a flying F about morality or democracy. Or a soldier’s life.
There is no doubt this is a loser who lacks even a basic understanding of the freedoms she abuses. But Charles doesn't look to see what the Kossacks think of this chump.
My first diary. Please forgive the formatting.

the diarist has been respectful and stated his/her position. Okay, I'm not so crazy about consigning people to Hell, that's above my pay grade. But, as far as I know, s/he's followed the rules, and I see no reason to keep other kosians from reading this diary. S/he doen't write well, but neither do I. (In fact Sister Immaculate Punctuation would slap me silly if she read this!) But unpopular opinions must be heard.

TR'd for telling troops that they deserve hell (6+ / 0-)lurxst wrote about American soldiers fighting the war in Iraq: "If you believe in God, you can damned well be sure you are going to hell for your participation in it."
So lurxst doesn't stop at merely "not supporting" the troops; lurxst goes even further and consigns them to hell.
I would not like to have a beer with lurxst.

Now that is hardly supportive of the screw the troops mentality. Whether they actually agree or not they sure know it's counter-productive to voice the idea.
Don't cherry pick if thou would not be cherry picked.
