I just watched President Bush's speech about his direction for immigration policy. Keep in mind that no laws have been created yet. This was just his wishlist for a new policy towards immigrants.
One of the things that I have been wrestling with is whether or not to put a citizenship reward on military service after four years. Granted, immigrants would have to be eligible to serve (facility with English, basic math skills, etc.).
I am not looking to create an American Foreign Legion (there probably wouldn't be that many applicants, either). I just believe that if you serve this country faithfully in the military, that you damn well deserve citizenship and freedom.
What do you think?
