There are calls for the death penalty. There are the calls to keep him alive to garner as much information as possible. There are people that don't believe that we have the real Saddam or that it was staged to give Bush a boost.
Rumsfeld said that Saddam is protected as a POW by the Geneva Convention.
Americans are weighing the legitimacy of trying Saddam by the Iraqis (who will kill him) or by the Hague for crimes against humanity or by a court in the U.S.
All of this is a bit maddening. One reader, though, has it on the ball...she emailed me that her husband had this brain storm:
