Warrior Legacy Foundation adapts new 'Fight Song' -

Posted By Mr Wolf

Blackfive posted up a few weeks ago a song and video that is just too HOOAH! not to listen to.  You can find that post here for The Warrior Song.

Since then, the Warrior Legacy Foundation has worked with the song's creator, Sean, and his team to 'adopt' the song for the Warrior Legacy Foundation.  Now, the WLF and The Warrior Song are one and the same in promoting its use for our Warriors!  The WLF has 'adopted' the song as its 'fight song'.

It's such a perfect fit.  If you haven't seen it, take a look at it now.  Be sure to pick up a copy of it and spread it around!

My third favorite video of all time...

Posted By Blackfive

Right after Tombstone and the entire Firefly series comes this video of Blackfive friend and uber-badass (and SF sniper) Tim Kennedy and Recon Marine Jon Walsh. Both are multiple tour (intense) combat vets, both have just returned from training Marines in Mixed Martial Arts techniques. This video is not about those techniques.

The guys at RangerUp are on fire. Don't put them out (they can take it, they ARE Rangers after all). Buy their shirts. Support their fighters.

Workman: Hangin' in Anaheim...

Posted By Mr Wolf

Jeremiah Workman gets to throw out the first pitch at the Anaheim Angels game on Friday, 9.11.09.  Here's the video- be sure to listen to the announcer's audio, and the crowd reaction.  I love it when the manager asks him to just 'hang out for awhile!' down in the dugout.  How cool is that?

Oh, his pitch is a bit high, but its FAR from this one.  You could hear it had heat when it hit the catchers glove...

And for those that need to catch up on who Workman is, take a gander here, here, and here.  His new book is out, as well...

Captain Darby Boudreaux - Someone You Should Know

Posted By Blackfive

"It's very real when I teach ... I take this extremely seriously. I realize what can happen. I always thought I had left something unfinished." - Captain Darby Boudreaux, severely wounded in Iraq in 2005, about his role during this tour in Iraq teaching others about IEDs.

Captain Darby Boudreaux (Baton Rouge, LA, US), 225th Engineer Brigade, is interviewed by a WAFB TV reporter about his reasons for going back to Iraq after being injured by an improvised explosive device. His current job is training Soldiers how to recognize and handle an IED.

More below on Captain Boudreaux's mission:

Soldier Returns for Unfinished Mission
225th Engineer Brigade]
Story by Lt. Col. Pat Simon
Posted: 08.19.2009 04:43

BAGHDAD – May 25, 2005, is a date that is burned in the memory of Capt. Darby Boudreaux, 225th Engineer Brigade.

On that afternoon, his platoon was conducting a route clearance mission near Ghazaliya in western Baghdad. The site was supposed to be clear, but wasn't. Chaos suddenly broke out.

"I got blown up by an [improvised explosive device] while we were dismounted, and we started taking direct fire ... getting shot at immediately after," said Boudreaux. "I knew that I was hurt really bad because of the amount of blood that I was putting out."

A minor artery in his right leg was severed. In just 30 seconds in back of medical Humvee, Boudreaux remembered a shocking site. He was lying in a two inch puddle of his own blood. His blood pressure dropped to 60 over 30. He was close to death and losing consciousness...

The Ugly of War

Posted By Blackfive

This is why grunts love medics...we also know that they pay a big price for what they do.

This is something that I think everyone should watch (warning: the descriptions are graphic), but it's not easy.

It's not easy at all...

After the jump, I'll post a piece that I think is from LTC (ret) Grossman's book "On Combat" that might allow some context.  It's not a military story, though...

Must SEE - The Return to Makin Island

Posted By Blackfive

I received a note from Corporal Seamus that all Marines must watch this.  Heck, everyone should watch this story about a Marine Raider landing sixty seven years ago (August 17-18, 1942) and again in 1999 on Makin Island.

Never forgotten...

Today is National Airborne Day - Part V

Posted By Blackfive

In order to send the Air Force some love, there were two USAF Pararescue (PJs) HALO jump videos which are shared below and then one rockin' compilation video after the jump that's a must see:

I swear, that @#%& is better than a cup of coffee...

Jimbo posted these before:

Oh man, that was fun. I don't care whether you have or haven't ever jumped out of an airplane, this is a great look at it. I think what it reminded me most is exactly how much of a giant bag of shite on a rope you are on a static line jump. Even so, I still felt the rush.

This was posted by MarlboroMan1979 who can poke his head up if he wants. If anyone has some HALO vids that would be fun and I would certainly link. And ramp exits rule.

The closest we come to flying.

A Survivor's Salute

Posted By Blackfive

From the Boston Globe:

...Yesterday, 67 years to the day that Dan Galvin lived while so many around him died, he did what he does every Aug. 9. He put on his sailor’s uniform from 1942, and he stepped onto his front porch, and he read the names of each of the 389 men who went down with the Quincy.

Sometimes he gets through the list without crying. But every year it gets harder.

“I worry,’’ Dan Galvin said. “I worry that when I’m gone, no one will remember these men.’’...

Go read the whole article at the Globe.

US Coast Guard Rescue Lost Hiker on Spruce Island

Posted By Blackfive

Below is b-roll of the USCG rescuing a lost hiker on Spruce Island (Alaska):

Here is the full story:

KODIAK, Alaska – The Coast Guard rescued a hiker from Spruce Island located about 12 miles north of Kodiak Thursday morning after he became lost in the woods.

John Peterson, 18, resident of Kodiak was reported missing by a friend Wednesday night after he did not return from exploring the island and surrounding woods.

The Coast Guard Rescue Coordination Center in Juneau received a call from Alaska State Troopers about 3:30 a.m. requesting assistance in locating Peterson.  He was reported last seen in Ouzinkie Village between 7 p.m. and 8:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Alaska State Troopers and local residents searched the area but were unsuccessful in locating Peterson.  Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak received a call for assistance and launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and crew to assist in the search.

Peterson was located by the aircrew and hoisted at approximately 6:45 a.m.  The helicopter crew reported Peterson was in good condition and delivered him safely to Ouzinkie Village.
