I talked about Lance Corporal Chris Adlesperger on Pundit Review on Sunday night. Go here for the post and the podcast.
Someone You Should Know - Radio
My pal Kevin took over on the Someone You Should Know segment on Pundit Review Radio last week to talk about the Canadians slugging it out with the Taliban in Afghanistan:
...Platoon 7 of Charlie Company of the 1st Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment
The Canadians called in strike after strike on the Taliban positions. The battle raged for 3 and a half hours before the Canadians departed for their stronghold.
Charlie Company lost four soldiers that day. Nine others were wounded.
The Taliban suffered many casualties, some estimates are that there were 200 killed, 80 captured and 180 fled the region...
This Sunday, on Pundit Review Radio, I talked about a fierce battle in Afghanistan where 11 Navy SEALs and 8 Army soldiers gave their lives. Froggy has discussed the battle here on Blackfive and I heard about it from a friend of mine at Bagram. Mark my words, one day when the whole story can be told, it will be one of the most hallowed and defining moments of individual and collective courage in our nation's history.
Last night on Pundit Review, I talked about Cyril Richard "Rick" Rescorla. Investor's Business Daily has a great article on Rick. Here's a taste:
His Actions Saved Thousands
After the second plane hit the south tower on Sept. 11, some people panicked when one staircase filled with smoke. Using his bullhorn, Rescorla directed them to a clear one. As on the battlefield, he sang to keep workers calm.
Even after it appeared that Rescorla evacuated most of the Morgan Stanley employees, he returned to check for stragglers. As Olson was working his way down on about the 10th floor he saw Rescorla going back up.
"I said, 'Rick, you have got to get out of there,' and he said, 'I will, as soon as I get everyone out,' " Olson said.
It was the last known sighting of Rescorla.
But really, the best and most comprehensive links and writings about Rick can be found at the Mudville Gazette. I knew about a man who saved a friend in the south tower, but I didn't know his name until I stumbled upon a blog called The Mudville Gazette in 2003.
Here is the link to the radio segment. It was a tough subject for me so, at first, I accidentally called the book "We Were Soldiers...", We Were Heroes. Big mistake.
I was asked by Gregg Jackson of Pundit Review what I'd be thinking of today. I'll be thinking of Rick Rescorla and Matty Ryan and others who stood fast in our darkest hour and saved over 20,000 people.
This week I talked about Neil Prakash of Armor Geddon and his fight in Baqubah where he was awarded the Silver Star for valor.
Last Sunday night we talked about the Recon Marines of 2nd Platoon, Bravo Company, 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, 1st Marine Division as Someone You Should Know.
And then we talked about the call of Marine Reservists, Haditha and John Murtha and how you can help an OIF vet (and her baby) displaced by Katrina who needs our help.
Last Sunday night on Pundit Review I talked about four soldiers (SFC Stephen C. Kennedy, SSG Christoper W. Dill, SFC Danny Hall and MSG Robert Collins) but focused on the two Special Forces Sergeants - SFC Hall and MSG Collins. Hit the link at Pundit Review to listen to the podcast (also available on iTunes):
This week we heard the story of two Green Beret’s who were awarded Silver Stars for their bravery under fire in Iraq. They are Sgt 1st Class Danny Hall and Master Sgt. Robert Collins.

Pundit Review Radio
Sunday evening, 7-10pm EST
Streaming Live on Boston’s Talk Station WRKO
We have a full show for you this Sunday evening. On Pundit Review we bring the best of the blogs to the radio, the subject matter experts that you won’t hear in the MSM. Well, we are doing that in spades this weekend. Here is the line-up for Sunday night.
We will examine the issue that both President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore believe is more important than terrorism. That’s right, we are talking global warming.
“Climate change is more remote than terror but a more profound threat to the future of the children and the grandchildren and the great-grandchildren I hope all of you have.” Clinton explained: “It’s the only thing we face today that has the power to remove the preconditions of civilized society.”
It is our great honor to announce that Mr. Richard Lindzen, the Alfred P. Sloan Professor of Atmospheric Science at MIT, and a leading critic of the hysteria over global wariming, will be our guest. Talk about subject matter experts!
Staying true to the mission of bringing new media, subject matter experts to the radio, it is our pleasure to welcome back Janet Levy, Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Jihad Watch Project. Given the events of this week, I cannot think of a more appropriate guest.
We have a special double feature of Someone You Should Know this week. Of course, Matt from the #1 milblog Blackfive will join us for our weekly collaboration to bring the untold stories of the heroics and bravery of the men and women fighting for us around the world.
We will also be speaking with a remarkable young man, Dylan DeSilva.Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops is a non-profit organization started by 12 year old Dylan. He wanted to find a way to honor our soldiers for their service, dedication and sacrifices to our country. With the help of his family and friends he sends care packages to our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan on a weekly basis.
The one and only Michael Yon will join us to talk about the deterioting situation in Iraq, especially in Baghdad. Michael has been on our show about a dozen times to talk about Iraq. What makes his work so great, so valuable, is that he is agenda free. He gives you the good, the bad and the ugly. Right now, it’s looking pretty ugly. Here’s Michael’s most recent post,
Despite incredible progress in Iraq, we are now in great peril of losing the war entirely. At the current rate, we will witness genocide as a nation rips itself apart along sectarian seams.
