This event took place on December 13, 1636 and the Massachusetts General Court ordered the organization of the Colony's militia companies into three regiments: The North, South and East Regiments. Today, the 101st Engineer Regiment of the Massachusetts National Guard is the direct descendant of the East Regiment.

Below, LTG William E. Ingram, Jr., director, Army National Guard, salutes citizen soldiers on the occasion of the 376th birthday of the National Guard. Produced by Sgt. 1st Class Robert Stephenson. Also available in high definition.
