How did we find bin Laden?

I'm glad he is dead. I'm glad he was shot in the head. That seems a perfectly apt way for him to go, no fanfare, no trial, no state execution. Just a quick ventilation of the cranium. Burn in Hell Motherf***er!

I think the long term inplications of his death will be minor, but symbolically today is a victory for America and a blow to terrorist rat bastards worldwide. Now let's talk about how we found him. This is quite interesting.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Officials say CIA interrogators in secret overseas prisons developed the first strands of information that ultimately led to the killing of Osama bin Laden.

Current and former U.S. officials say that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, provided the nom de guerre of one of bin Laden's most trusted aides. The CIA got similar information from Mohammed's successor, Abu Faraj al-Libi. Both were subjected to harsh interrogation tactics inside CIA prisons in Poland and Romania.

First and foremost, the information came from interrogating live al Qaeda prisoners. We have pretty much stopped capturing folks since it is less trouble to simply Hellfire their asses, but dead tangos tell no tales. We need to rededicate ourselves to catching and squeezing the bad guys for intel. And all the BS about coercive interrogations and torture and secret prisons etc. now is shown to be the whingeing of a bunch of people still safe in their beds while rough men do the real damn work. Good thing we shut all that stuff down, be a shame to catch or kill any more of these scum. That doesn't seem to have been the case here.

The U.S. special forces team that hunted down Osama bin Laden was under orders to kill the al Qaeda mastermind, not capture him, a U.S. national security official told Reuters.

Second, the Pakistanis are more treacherous weasels than even I thought. Tens of billions of dollars later and we couldn't even tell them about the raid until after since they would have tipped him off. It may be time to bag our "special" relationship with them and just set a bombing run through the border provinces every five years to make sure that the rubble can't make trouble.
