DOD rules no Purple Hearts for PTSD

Posted By Uncle Jimbo

Susan Katz Keating, who we support Best Hidden Gem in the Weblog Awards, has a piece up about the decision by DoD that the Purple Heart is not appropriate in cases of PTSD. It has already gotten a comment from Troy (Bouhammer) and Mrs G. agreeing with DoD. This is an issue where is is tough to say no to the many great troops who have been affected by PTSD, but the traditions that have made the Purple Heart important for 200 years really should trump the desire to do good. We can come up with other ways to help and honor the sevice of those who have surely been hurt and whose lives have been, in many cases destroyed. But changing the meaning of the PH is not the proper route in my mind.
