Dream Ticket, A Little More
Sorry for the delay, but work is quite intense (out of control) and on top of it all someone decided to share the current bug with me. That said, here's a little more to go with what is here.
National Advisor on Science and Technology: Dr. Jerry Pournelle
New cabinet post, but long overdue and needed. One of the first tasks given to Jerry will be to form a citizen's advisory panel of experts similar to the citizen's advisory panel on space under Reagan. At least two advisory panelssub-panels are needed on contagion/pandemic and energy/energy distribution -- T. Boone Pickens or anyone else looking for the government to fund their dream need not appy.
Secretary of Commerce: Stephen Fleming
Venture Capitalist with a strong knowledge of science and technology. Understands regulatory environments and issues with same, has -- I think -- a fair knowledge of logistics and related issues, and could truly benefit free enterprise.
Also, I think it is well past time for Key West (the agreement) to be scrapped. It does make sense for there to be a force dedicated to strategic airpower and spacepower, hence the creation of the U.S. Space Force to take over satellites, anti-satellites, strategic rockets and missiles, and long range bombers. Strategic and tactical airlift, ground support fighters and bombers, helicopters, and all else get rolled up into a package and back into the Army or into a joint operations concept between the Army and Marines. Doing this will not be easy. So:
Secretary of Air Operations: Dean Ing
Dean knows logistics, the military, and a wee bit about things that fly. I think he would also be a good one to help forge a new generation of truly effective and efficient advanced craft for this, even as he milks every drop of life and good out of what we already have. Besides, he will remember that his focus is supporting the troops on the ground...
Secretary of Space: Larry Bond
Before he became an author (and possibly the better half of the Clancy/Bond writing team), he did a few things along military lines. No space experience, but he understands strategy and strategic operations, logistics, and has a feel for space. Besides, he is a geek's geek and can deal with the geeks necessary to get this force literally off the ground.
More soon.
