When you want something done right....
“I do not trust the British Forces. They did not want to lose any soldiers for the mission.”
Here I am, doing the initial planning for the victory parade past Grandma Pelosi's house in San Fran and I get an e-mail from a friend with an article from the UK Times Online. And it starts out like this....
A secret deal between Britain and the notorious al-Mahdi militia prevented British Forces from coming to the aid of their US and Iraqi allies for nearly a week during the battle for Basra this year, The Times has learnt.
Yeah.... The Limey bastards sold us out and stood by and watched while we did the heavy lifting necessary to get the job done... Again...
But it gets worse.... Much worse...
Four thousand British troops – including elements of the SAS and an entire mechanised brigade – watched from the sidelines for six days because of an “accommodation” with the Iranian-backed group, according to American and Iraqi officers who took part in the assault.
Now it seems, pitching these tea swilling ass-monkeys out of our AO and back to the wretched island they came from would seem to be the best course of action, but maybe I should let the Iraqis tell how they really feel...
Colonel Imad, who heads the 2nd Battalion, 1st Brigade, 1st Iraqi Army Division, the most experienced division, commanded one of the quick-reaction battalions summoned to assist British-trained local forces, who faltered from the outset because of inexperience and lack of support.
He said: “Without the support of the Americans we would not have accomplished the mission because the British Forces had done nothing there.
We put out the effort to get the job done, losing men in the process. The way I see it m' ladies, you owe America for at least one United States Marine.
I don't know if you have enough saved up to pay that bill....
If you haven't guessed, I am pretty pissed, but I am most pissed because, according to the article, we knew about it and the world is only now finding out. So that makes us complicit in this dark little chapter of this war. That is wrong.
No one is going to convince me of the nuance of making deals with our enemies when they have no intention of holding up their end of the bargain. That Chamberlainesque idea should have died with him.
But still, accommodationists and appeasers continue to hope that, like Churchhill said, that the alligator will eat them last.
Here is the rest of the article and consider yourself warned....
