Gen. Abizaid: An Alternative View on Iran
Jimbo was just asking if anyone has an alternative to bombing Iran. Gen. Abizaid, former combatant commander of US CENTCOM, does have what he believes to be an alternative. He believes that we can deter a nuclear Iran, and that it is not "a suicide state."
I realize this is likely to be an unpopular view here, and one that requires a certain faith that is hard to justify in Iran's intentions. Nevertheless, Gen. Abizaid is a sharp and experienced officer. It's worth reading his remarks and considering them. His remarks on Afghanistan seem essentially correct to me, and while I have concerns about his thinking on Iran, I believe we owe it to the gentleman to consider his thinking carefully.
