A Busy, Busy (But Fantastic!!) 4th of July 2008

Posted By Mr Wolf

Wall_pics_009 WHEW!  Whatta week it's been here at Casa de Wolf!  Jimbo, Kev, and Tankerbabe (as you all know) stopped by to open up BlackFive WestFest this weekend, and its been NON-stop ever since!!  But if yer gonna have fun, man, what a group to do it with!  I'm SO glad they were able to come out this week- I hope to see them again VERY soon here for the DNC in August.  We set out some plans for the event, as well as how to dominate the innernets between now and then :)  I have much to learn from Jimbo-san.  We planned new t-shirt slogans and designs, tv episodes to be produced, and basically how to render the nuetering of all those who oppose us.

I've also been busy all weekend with the Wall event that the Thornton Veterans Memorial Foundation has set up, and that has kept me 'grounded' while Jimbo and Co. have been in residence.  Thankfully, these guys can put up with a lot and were so great to have here.  The Wall event went off SPLENDIDLY and was a new standard in 'Wall Presentation'.  The team that brings the wall around the country said that in the years they've been doing it, Thornton surpassed EVERY other location.  By the looks of what the city provided, I can't imagine what it would take to top it.  While we, the foundation, coordinated the event, the city personnel designed and prepared the site.

It was tastefully done, solemnly and respectfully presented, and enjoyed by everyone that attended.  From the Motorcycle Escort to the site, the Opening Ceremony, the 4th of July events, to the closing ceremony this evening, it has been a fantastic opportunity to meet veterans of ALL ilk and share some more bonding and 'hanger flying'.  PGR and Rolling Thunder, as well as others, provided security and monitored crowds as well as assisted vets.

After the jump, pics and more...

Veterans from all over the area attended, and we were so lucky to meet many of them.  I must say they take this even EXTREMELY seriously, and guard the sacredness of the Wall to the extreme, as they should.  They honor their fallen brothers like no other I've ever witnessed.  With all they've been thru, we, the 'newer' vets, have a lot to learn from them and should pay attention.

I know only this- I will work to my UTMOST ABILITY to prevent my current brothers and sisters who serve from having to go thru what our older brethren have had to endure.  IT SHALL NOT HAPPEN HERE.  That said, the Wall will go to Boulder, CO on July 16th.  Curious to see how THAT event shapes up.  God help and protect anyone who thinks they can make some kind of 'statement' while the Wall is in Boulder.

Some pics, as promised.  Of note were the myriad items of honor left behind by those that came to visit the Wall.  We, the committee, will save all of these items left  at the site, and inter them under the memorial we are building with an explanation of where they came from and what the represented:
