House shows signs of Intelligence- Passes FISA
In a shocking display of common sense the House passed an updated FISA bill that actually achieves most of what is needed. I don't know how this breach of House protocol occurred, but the bill has no egregious limits on what can be done and allows emergency surveillances if valuable intel would otherwise be lost. Holy Cow how did that tidbit of sanity survive.
WASHINGTON - The House Friday easily approved a compromise bill setting new electronic surveillance rules that effectively shield telecommunications companies from lawsuits arising from the government's terrorism-era warrantless eavesdropping on phone and computer lines in this country.
Nancy Pelosi managed to make it trough the ordeal with her customary witlessness about our government intact. She incorrectly and as ususal misconstrues the power of Congress to regulate the Prsident's authority as Commander in Chief during wartime under Article II of the Constitution. If the President wants to spy on pretty much anyone or anything pursuant to gaining wartime intelligence, he can and no court has ever said otherwise.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi of California disputed that, saying FISA would from now on be the authority for the government to conduct electronic surveillance.
"There is no inherent authority of the president to do whatever he wants. This is a democracy, not a monarchy," she said.
Well at least she can make that distinction, but clueless Nan is wrong if she thinks adding a few lines in a bill actually alters the Constitution. You'd think she'd remember from when she and the girls fought to get the vote. Regardless, something not bad happened on Capitol Hill and that is cause for rejoicing.
On the T-shirt tip one satisfied lefty baiter.
I just received my T-shirt and it looks great!
I'll be sure to parade around town with it to antagonize the local lefty's. BTW, I live in Chicago so I'm always outnumbered, but never outgunned. ;)
