Gitmo Blues
One of the greatest failures of the Bush administration has been it's inability to make any kind of significant progress with the enemy combatants held in Guantanamo. We just now are charging KSM and allowing him to sing dance and tell stories.. This has been a systemic failure and it leaves important principles of legal reasoning untested and now likely to be decided during the next President's tenure. That could very easily be President Obama and the mobs of outraged lefties who support him and would empty Gitmo in a heartbeat. (full transcript after the jump)
We should have run everyone in that place through a tribunal and assessed punishments, but we have done almost nothing. Instead of gibbering for the audience and the sketch artist Khalid Sheik Sheik Sheik Mohammed should be hanging from a gibbet with crows plucking his eyes out.
W has only until January and he has screwed the pooch as far as taking care of a reasonable obligation to charge these bastards with something and render sentence. Not doing so rightly fuels outrage on the left and disgust on the right. It is an issue of fundamental competency and once again the President's team has proved completely lacking feck.
