Charges dropped against LTC Chesssani
Charges against the Battalion Commander of the Haditha Marines have been dropped.
CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. -- A military judge has dismissed charges against a Marine officer accused of failing to investigate the killings of 24 Iraqis.
Col. Steven Folsom dismissed charges Tuesday against Lt. Col. Jeffrey Chessani after defense attorneys raised concerns that a four-star general overseeing the prosecution was improperly influenced by an investigator probing the November 2005 shootings by a Marine squad in Haditha.
The charges were dismissed without prejudice, meaning they can be refiled, but Folsom excluded Marine Forces Central Command from future involvement.
This was the only fair outcome and LTC Chessani should bear no burden because of this. The situation became very politically-charged and he got caught up in that.
So after charging almost everyone involved or even in country, all charges have been dropped save one set. Those against SSGT Wuterich remain and he is still in serious jeopardy and could possibly be convicted of Voluntary Manslaughter. I covered this case extensively here and the Defend Our Marines site deserves a freakin' Pulitzer for their tireless work.
I think that SSGT Wuterich will face trial and be acquitted. When the final toll is taken we have many dead Iraqis, several ruined careers and a stain the MSM made sure the whole world saw in the wrong light. But the most egregious actor in this sad tale, was the Lummox Murtha. What a sad sack of shite he stacks inside those suits and lumbers from trough to trough. Shame on you Mr. Murtha you disgraced yourself, the Congress and earned the disgust of 99% of the US military.
