Obama Supporters on Military Service

As if there wasn't enough political ammo to go after John McCain with, Obama supporters are going after his military service (I said the same thing about attacking John Kerry's service record...)

Grim addressed this in his post - An End to the Suspense.  Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa* opened his mouth and spoke (the language) dumbass about McCain.  Apparently newspapers have translators for the rest of us.  Grim wrote:

It is interesting how he views the families that have sent generations of their sons -- and, now, daughters -- to fight for America as particularly dishonorable and dangerous.  It is one thing if you were drafted, and had no choice, but to choose to fight for America... and generation after generation...

I agree that it's "intertesting" if interesting=political hit job.

But wait, there's more.  Sean Bannion at Cold Fury writes about a Obama supporter and Iraq vet in Georgia who believes that John McCain is part of Navy royalty who's judgment should not be trusted.  Meet Bill Gillespie:

McCain, Gillespie added, was “somebody who needed to stand out, someone that needed to draw attention to themselves and … was usually out for themselves.”

Bannion lays out the motivations for Gillespie, a political nobody with a successful military career, for joining the fray with unsubstantiated accusations about McCain.  Check it out.

And Ed Morrisey at Hot Air has this awesome post about it.  He wraps up with this "bring it on" paragraph:

...If the Obama campaign wants to continue its denigration of military service, let them. It’s going to be difficult to sell McCain as a man who got a free ride through a distinguished naval career and attempt to turn a real war hero into a dilettante. That effort will reveal the anti-military animus that surrounds Team Obama and its supporters on the hard Left better than any ad the Republicans can produce.

While I wouldn't expect respect for the military from the Obama camp, based on the last few weeks, we're going to see more of this kind of thing...

* Note:  Dear Iowa, don't feel bad.  In Illinois, we have Dick "Pol Pot" Durbin and Barack "Pals with Domestic Terrorist" Obama.
