Presidential Candidate Matching Quiz
This is kinda interesting, and I would have to say tracks pretty well with what I would have assumed, although Fred seems farther down that I would have thought. That is my maverick, libertarian streak showing. Here is the quiz.
75% John McCain
71% Rudy Giuliani
64% Mike Huckabee
63% Mitt Romney
60% Fred Thompson
54% Tom Tancredo
51% Bill Richardson
49% Ron Paul
48% Hillary Clinton
47% Joe Biden
47% Chris Dodd
46% John Edwards
44% Barack Obama
39% Mike Gravel
36% Dennis Kucinich

I got a pretty high percentage for Ron Paul, should I be scared?

At first I was doing the "how important" thing backwards until I noticed the ranks were opposite what I expected.
I took a different poll that had my first three as, Romney, Thompson, Giuliani. This one had Romney, Thompson, at the top and Giuliani was the lowest on the Republican list, the only one below 70%. Including Paul at 72%, who is a kook, but I'm mostly libertarian so...
Richardson is the only Dem who scored better than 40, at 44. Dodd, Clinton, Gravel, and then Obama way down at 33, Edwards and Kucinish in a tie with Biden at a lowly 28%.
The thing is... I don't really like Romney. And I do like Giuliani. And Paul is a kook. And who is Trancredo?
And Obama hardly did better than Kucinich on my quiz which surprises me not at all.
I wonder if all the scores are recorded and compiled some place.

Weird...I'm an agnostic and ended up with 94% for Huckabee, 93% for McCain. Must be because I've been pulling for Hunter since he announced.
Posted by: Rev Prez | January 08, 2008 at 02:56 PM
I don't think these quizzes weight the issues and the candidates' positions properly. I'm pretty well informed on most things, and know who best represents my views (Fred, by far) and yet he's below Guiliani and McCain who both fall down big time on one of my two important issues (illegal immigration). Fred is the only candidate I've been supporting with cash this time as Duncan Hunter is too long a shot. If they got the nomination I could vote for Romney (though he'd be a better I mean veep), Guiliani, or even McCain over whichever unqualified candidate the Dems nominate with the aid of a little nose holding. Jimmy Carter, er, I mean Huckabee, or Ron Paul would cause me to stay home.

Here's my grading:
89% Mitt Romney
84% Fred Thompson
82% John McCain
72% Tom Tancredo
70% Mike Huckabee
68% Rudy Giuliani
58% Ron Paul
42% Bill Richardson
35% Hillary Clinton
33% Barack Obama
33% Chris Dodd
33% Joe Biden
31% John Edwards
17% Mike Gravel
15% Dennis Kucinich
Interesting how Rudy didn't score so high when I took this ... perhaps that is because there was question regarding the election of leaders with proven competence?
Posted by: Rich Casebolt | January 08, 2008 at 05:11 PM
Excuse me ... should read "because there wasn't a question regarding" ...
PIMF.

Nolo, did you notice that the weighting you were supposed to do started at "very important" on the left to "not important" on the right? Sort of like counting backwards. It threw me off and even after I noticed I had to consciously adjust for it every time.
Not that I put a lot of faith in quizes like this, but they are fun.

I am not sure what this all means.
Posted by: David | January 08, 2008 at 05:34 PM
Old Tanker. Congrats. I was only able to get Kucinich to 30%. Man, you got 9. I'd like to have him removed actually, or at least sub 1%.
Posted by: Cincinnati_Bob | January 08, 2008 at 06:08 PM
I can't believe how high you guys all scored that kook Ron Paul! That is the surprising thing that sticks out to m in the comments above.
I scored it...
83% John McCain
75% Mitt Romney
73% Mike Huckabee
72% Rudy Giuliani
69% Fred Thompson
68% Tom Tancredo
55% Hillary Clinton
51% Bill Richardson
50% John Edwards
49% Barack Obama
47% Chris Dodd
45% Joe Biden
45% Ron Paul
31% Mike Gravel
24% Dennis Kucinich
My wife took it too and scored it:
84% John McCain
77% Mitt Romney
76% Mike Huckabee
74% Fred Thompson
68% Rudy Giuliani
67% Tom Tancredo
47% Hillary Clinton
46% John Edwards
44% Joe Biden
44% Barack Obama
44% Ron Paul
42% Bill Richardson
37% Chris Dodd
27% Mike Gravel
19% Dennis Kucinich
Right know with the field presented I could vote for either Rudy or Mitt. It would be real hard and I would have to be extremely pragmatic (looking to Supreme Court appointments) to vote for either Huck (I can’t stand the “Fair Tax” or his spewing I’m a better Christian than anyone else crap) or McCain (McCain-Feingold, McCain-Kennedy, Gang of 14, etc, etc… ad nauseum). Fred doesn’t do anything for me as he just seems to be going through the motions. As for Ron Paul. PUHLEASE…
Posted by: F5Racer | January 08, 2008 at 06:56 PM
F5Racer,
I'm not sure how Ron Paul beat Rudy on mine but dude.......you gave Kookcinich 24%, that way more than offsets my Ron Paul!!!! (okay, Kookcinich's wife is hot but there wasn't a question on that or Fred would have done better!!)
Posted by: Old Tanker | January 08, 2008 at 08:24 PM
78% Mitt Romney
76% John McCain
73% Mike Huckabee
67% Fred Thompson

Didn't like some of the options given for some questions, but as candidate quizzes go, I've seen worse.

It doesn't mean John McCain isn't an asshat.
And here is the definitive proof of it:

And then of course, there was the excremental McCain-Feingold... sometimes I wonder if JM has ever even read the US Constitution...
