Supporting The Troops = NAMBLA? WTF?
Okay, I'm finally getting to work on a fun post for today (up later) and happen to surf through Fox News just in time to hear some speaker, as part of a debate on NBC's refusal to run ads thanking/supporting the troops (apparently to the point of demanding changes in the organization's WWW site if they wanted the ads to run). use an analogy of NAMBLA ads. In other words, he equated ads thanking/supporting the troops to ads by/supporting NAMBLA. By logical extension, he has compared the troops (if not members of the organization behind the ad) to members of NAMBLA. WTF?
Now, NBC alone of the major networks (from what I have heard) has refused to run the paid ads. To my mind, that pretty much says it all about them, objectivity, and where they stand. Don't watch much on NBC anyway, so I won't mind turning them off. Fact is, it is their right to refuse the ad. It is also my right to turn them off and to choose other brands than GE when I make purchases. Freedom of choice and association.
That said, the analogy chosen by this spectacularly specious bit of reasoning is more than simply insulting. The person who made it has just shown all I need to know about them, their ability to reason, and where they stand. I agree with those on TV who called it bull. It is absolute and total c**p, a spectacular bit of mental masturbation posing as reasoned thought. I didn't get the idiot's name, but he owes a major apology for that linkage. I doubt, however, that it have the courage, fortitude, or basic decency to do it. It is, alas, pretty much what passes for intellect and rational discourse in far too many these days.
