The Washington Post reported today that select members of congress were briefed by the CIA in 2002 about enhanced interrogation techniques. Included in the briefing was current House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

According to the article, the CIA gave congressional overseers approximately 30 private briefings, some of which included descriptions of waterboarding, other harsh interrogation methods, and virtual tours of the CIA's overseas detention sites.

Whoops!  I guess she forgot about those briefings when she was trying to cowtow and grovel to the ANSWER crowd.

The lawmakers who held oversight roles during the period included Pelosi and Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.) and Sens. Bob Graham (D-Fla.) and John D. Rockefeller IV (D-W.Va.), as well as Rep. Porter J. Goss (R-Fla.) and Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan).

As everyone who stops by here at B5 knows, Porter Goss was the Head of the CIA for the better part of 2 years.

One of my favorite quotes from the article is this little gem;

"The briefer was specifically asked if the methods were tough enough," said a U.S. official who witnessed the exchange.

I don't know if the ANSWER crowd are going to forgive her and the other members of the Democrat Party....

  As to the Speaker herself, Pelosi declined to comment to the Washington Post.

This is exactly what happens when you try to be on both sides of the issue.  When you whore yourself out to the extreme left to hold on to power by lying to them about what you really think. The part of this that is "classic" is that this issue is headed  the way of Hillary and her parsing her Iraq War vote and John Kerry and his "for it before I was against it" B.S.

But a congressional source familiar with Pelosi's position on the matter said the California lawmaker did recall discussions about enhanced interrogation. The source said Pelosi recalls that techniques described by the CIA were still in the planning stage -- they had been designed and cleared with agency lawyers but not yet put in practice -- and acknowledged that Pelosi did not raise objections at the time.

So, Nancy was OK with the CIA planning to waterboard terrorists back in 2002, but now she is evidently against the CIA actually using them, and once it became public and the libtards predictably began their hand-wringing and teeth knashing aerobics over the issue, she joined them in their "outrage."     

I would like very much of the Head of the CIA Director Michael Hayden should march out in front of the press at the briefing room and tell them the following regarding this issue and the destruction of the "evil" tapes that the CIA decided they needed no longer.

"You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You need me on that wall.

"I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I provide it!" 

Ahhhh!  The comforting words of Colonel Jessep.  I think Director Hayden ought to hire Jack Bauer and the Colonel to handle our HVT detainee program.  In a perfect world....

I hope I haven't jumped the shark or elbowed Uncle J out of the way on this, because he has been on this like stink on doo-doo and he has done a great job tracking the issue of torture and what is and isn't.  This is a pretty good accounting of WTF Nancy knew and when she knew it, as well as the other members of Congress some staff members.
