General Petraeus is Man of the Year...

Posted By Blackfive

...but not by the judgement of our own press.  The Telegraph UK named General David H. Petraeus as their Person of the Year.  That's right.  A foreign newspaper saw fit to do what our own press would not...recognize success (even modest success) in Iraq.

What's next?  Le Monde recognizing Senator John McCain for being the reason the Surge even happened...?

Anyway, go read the Telegraph piece about General Petraeus.

I thought that the reason the surge happened was because of the 2006 elections?

I believe, ChenZhen, the "surge"-offensive happened, because GEN David Petraeus and others who had experienced Iraq in 2004-2006 and learned lessons from mistakes and failures and learned what worked and what didn't with regards to insurgencies, wrote up a new COIN (COunter-INsurgency) manual (which, for some reason, had not been written after our lessons learned in COIN in Viet Nam), which was then presented to the President along with a new strategy to defeat the insurgency.

That was in the works long before the 2006 elections. The President, I believe, took the advice of his military leaders and decided that the COIN strategy, directed by GEN David Petraeus, was the way to go and then decided to execute it.

The only thing the 2006 elections did was vote out of office a bunch of weenie RINOs and vote into office a bunch of sheep Democrats who would do the bidding of the radical left-wing Democrat leadership and would end up achieving nothing but the lowest Congressional approval rating in history while calling the war "lost", GEN Petraeus a "betrayer" and doing their level best to pull out the rug from the troops while they were succeeding in Iraq. Oh and they passed a higher minimum wage too.

All that said, I'm glad you saw this story too, Matt. I posted on it after seeing it at HotAir Headlines. (apparently this story wasn't good enough to write a blog about it to highlight it at HotAir)

How come the UK recognized him, but we could not? That is screwed up.

A Brit/Canadian called this one last week...;) But glad to see that the Telegraph did the right thing. Time Magazine? Irrelevant....:)

I spent yesterday afternoon at Orly Airport in Paris, on the way home from visiting my favorite TROOP in Germany. I really have to say that I never expected to be treated so well in France. A number of people made a point to say hi and thank us for doing the hard work of fighting the WOT.( And reminding me of the work THEY were doing!). For myself, I will rethink my opinions of the People of France. We do live in interesting times! TIME magazine?? A total waste of time :-)
God bless our TROOPS!
