Is Al-Reuters even on board?

Posted By Deebow

I was avoiding the usual TV shows that my wife watches on the DVR by surfing the web for some in depth and penetrating analysis on how badly my Dallas Cowboys are going to beat up in the Minnesota Vikings this Sunday and looky what I found (h/t Drudge):

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S. forces in Iraq discovered nearly 19 tons of explosives in a weapons cache north of Baghdad this week, one of the biggest finds of its kind, the U.S. military said on Saturday.

The cache was discovered west of Tarmiya, some 30 km (19 miles) northwest of the capital Baghdad, in Salahuddin province where Sunni Arab militants have a strong presence.

The find was made up of 41,000 lbs of ammonium nitrate and 35 mortar bombs. U.S. forces destroyed the cache.

"It's a crippling blow against the enemy, it's really huge," said Peggy Kageleiry, a spokeswoman for U.S. forces in northern Iraq.

Car and truck bombs are used on almost a daily basis by militants in Iraqis targeting U.S. and Iraqi security forces and civilians.

There was nothing up about this on the DoD website, but I am certain that more information will be forthcoming.

Maybe that WaPo article from last week saying that AQI was on the run and the surge is working is starting a trend among the sunshine patriot press (not holding my breath).  Al-Reuters could have gotten away with just the 5 W's on this one, but they could not resist throwing in a really juicy nugget of bad news to finish out the article, just to remind us of how badly the war is going.

In the deadliest attack this year, 520 people were killed in August when two suicide bombers drove two garbage trucks packed with explosives into two villages in northwestern Iraq.

Seems to me that if we are getting the intel to catch 19 tons of explosives, then the AQI boys are truly in a hurt locker, with a chair leaned up against the latch.  That amount of go-power will definitely take someone out a whole new door.  Having that off the street helps the Iraqi people.

I guess that means it won't headline today on CNN.....
