The Assault on General Petraeus Continues

Posted By Blackfive

First, some Kossack nutjob has it in his head that origins of the "Betrayus" label for GEN Petraeus originated in the 101st Airborne Division because someone left a comment about it here on Blackfive.

Okay, Moron, David Petraeus was probably called Cadet Betrayus at West Point.

And what does that have to do with MoveOn placing a horrible slanderous ad in the New York Times?

Nothing.  Congrats, your ideas have an effective range of zero-point-zero meters.  You are a No-Go at this station.  Here, have a cookie.

Second, there is a concerted effort underway to undermine General Petraeus's credibility.  I keep getting emails asking me to look into events around the General's Bronze Star with V.

Senate passed an amendment supporting Gen Petraeus and condemning personal attacks.

http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=110&session=1&vote=00344

Look at the list of NAYS, everything that's wrong with our Congress right there.

Hey Blackfive,

Since your "checking out" the "V" on General Petraeus' his Bronze star, see if you can get the load down on all the other ribbons. While he was testifying and being interviewed on Fox, I was trying to see how many I could identify other than the Air Assault and Airborne pins below the ribbon rack. Unfortunately they wouldn't get a close up them.

I found this quotation illuminating

When Senator John Warner asked him: “Does the [Iraq war] make America safer?

Petraeus replied “I don’t know, actually. I have not sat down and sorted in my own mind.

At least we can be sure he's a pretty honest fellow.

This is from the MNF-I site

Awards and decorations earned by General Petraeus include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, two awards of the Distinguished Service Medal, two awards of the Defense Superior Service Medal, four awards of the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal for valor, the State Department Superior Honor Award, the NATO Meritorious Service Medal, and the Gold Award of the Iraqi Order of the Date Palm. He is a Master Parachutist and is Air Assault and Ranger qualified. He has also earned the Combat Action Badge and French, British, and German Jump Wings. In 2005 he was recognized by the U.S. News and World Report as one of America’s 25 Best Leaders.

Wish I could say I was surprised, but am more so that it took them this long. The best way to destroy a message that you don't like but can't refute is to damage/destroy the messenger. By calling the messenger into doubt on an unrelated issue, it casts a measure of doubt on the otherwise untouchable message. Look for any and all manner of such actions, down to taking two mints instead of the one free mint with dinner somewhere. Feh.

Here's my opinion of those MoveOn.org.asms: A whole lotta noise and they're pretty impressed with themselves. But most intelligent people don't want to hear it and don't want to see it. It's political pornography made by a seedy crowd.

From the Petraeus file, official:

US DECORATIONS AND BADGES
Defense Distinguished Service Medal
Distinguished Service Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster)
Defense Superior Service Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster)
Legion of Merit (with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters)
Bronze Star Medal with "V" Device

Meritorious Service Medal (with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters)
Joint Service Commendation Medal
Army Commendation Medal (with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters)
Joint Service Achievement Medal

Interesting here, is that the CAB and EIB both can be worn. The CIB has a rank restriction; above LTC I don't believe it is awarded. I don't believe the CAB has such a restriction.

Remember, he was nominated for the award, and a 4-star would have had to approve it, if not higher (possible JCS-level approval for a 2-star, but LTG McKiernan could also possibly have approved it). Either way, this wasn't purchased at the PX and worn in any way, shape, or form...

Predictable outcome, all the way around. Let enemy sympathizers during a time of war hide under a twisted mutation of "freedom of speech" and the attacks will only escalate until we're brought down from within, again.

In the entire recorded history of humanity, there is no thing so universally despised and found worthy of the harshest possible punishment than those who side with the enemy during a war.

Well, if these people really want to go that route, let's revisit John Kerry's Purple Hearts. Last I looked into it, I was satisfied that he was not entitled to even one of them.

But, really, if they're attacking the Generals decorations, it means they have nothing else. Having nothing else means that he spoke the truth, and they know it. It also means they are afraid of what his medals MEAN.

I'm not sure what Gen. Patreus' old medals have to with it. If you actually read the ad they seem to be taking issue with some of the assumptions guiding his analysis. We may have different opinions than the liberals about Gen. Patreus' performance and judgment, but that is part of normal political debate.

People seem to be blowing the whole thing out of proportion. So, some San Fran liberals don't agree with Gen. Patreus' assessment? Big deal.

Like most people, I don't care where the nickname originated, or what he was called at West Point.

We're in the middle of a hot war, and he's commanding it. And Moveon put the name on a fullpage ad in the New York Times BEFORE he uttered a word of testimony. That's all I need to know.

It is a big deal, R. At least to some of us.

If the moonbats can cast any doubt on the validity of any of his decorations, then his honor comes into question, which brings his truthfulness into question, which brings the report into question. A very short logic chain.

On 10SEP2007, while waiting to get into the room that Petraeus was giving his testimony in, I was surrounded by Code Pink folks. I always try to engage the opposition, in the hope of changing hearts and minds. I picked a woman who was much older than the Valley Girl/Granola chick majority. After a couple of minutes of "Bush lied!", I had to ask her, about what did he lie?

To sum up, she could not respond coherently to any of my statements. This woman wasn't hitting on all cylinders and being horsepower challenged to begin with, she immediately began Ad Hominem comments culminating in a disparaging remark about my mother, said just loud enough for me to hear. I couldn't believe my ears. I've never wanted to hit a woman so much in my life. But, it being the Hart Senate Building and crawling with security, I chalked it up to a lesson learned and let it go.

I relate this so folks can understand that there is NOTHING these ding dongs won't do to further their cause.

If moonbat= braindead, wack, depraved liar, then moonbats they are and nothing is beneath them.

And Saturday was one long screaming match.

What I find truly sad, (Because these idiots can have a profound effect on our personal lives), is when the red team FINALLY threw a punch back and pointed out how piss-ant the moveon ad was, the Dem 'leadership' (Pelosi and co.) came back, and rather than defend their position, acted like THREE YEAR OLDS and started yapping about how John Kerry was attacked.

Listen up Nancy. Kerry wasn't a General. Kerry wasn't in combat very long, with anything near the level of responsibility General Petraeus has, and even More Importantly, Kerry WASN'T attacked by the republicans ! He was attacked by the Swift Boat Crew!! Can you imagine the blather of 4 years with the moron brigade in control.

PS - I wonder if Gen Petraeus would say something like '9-11 didn't affect me' like Kerry did while running for the White House !!!
PPS - I wonder is Gen Petraeus would utter something like 'I couldn't think for 30-40 minutes after 9-11 happened' like Kerry did while trying to get his worthless butt in the White House !!!!!!!!!!!
Who supports these senile zombies that call themselves leaders? Pelosi. Reid. My God.

OldSoldier54 - Mob Mentality. Kind of ironic the word mentality is in that phrase.

Jordon. They are Bls to the wall invested in failure. It's all ya gotta know and I'm sure you do. I can't help pointing it out in the hopes that maybe one person will read this and say, ya know, you're right there bobo, the Dems are all about failure. Why would I want them controlling my country.

In the same vein, here is what the liberals have in store for us. - http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20070914/belinda_Stronach_070914/20070914?hub=Canada

To those questioning why this is a "big deal", just go back to the first comment in this thread by "cdeegan". The entire Democrat leadership, including all the Democrat Presidential candidates, showed their true colors when they voted NAY. The Democrat Party is controlled by Moveon.org and the Daily Kos Krowd.

I certainly hope Democrat-voters realize this and realize whom they are supporting when they vote Democrat. And to those here who are registered Democrats, I certainly hope you will exercise good judgement in the upcoming primaries and try to get a reasonable Democrat (if one exists) nominated for the 2008 Presidential ticket. At this point, I don't see one. Hillary is beholden to Moveon and Daily Kos, Obama couldn't even be bothered to take a stand on this issue (great leadership there) and we all know what an empty suit is John Edwards. It really is too bad that the Moveon.ogres and the Kossacks drove Joe Lieberman out of the Party, because he would be a good man to run for President on the Democrat ticket, whom I could respect.

I found this quotation illuminating

When Senator John Warner asked him: “Does the [Iraq war] make America safer?”

Petraeus replied “I don’t know, actually. I have not sat down and sorted in my own mind.”

At least we can be sure he's a pretty honest fellow.

Sparky- please illuminate us as to what you are getting at here. Before I make assumptions, I want to get things clear first.

You gotta like what the Pres said about this-
"“And that leads me to come to this conclusion: that most Democrats are afraid of irritating a left-wing group like MoveOn.org — or more afraid of irritating them than they are of irritating the United States military.”

Well said Mr. President
