Commando Air Assault Detains Suspected Insurgent Disguised as Pregnant Woman

2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division Public Affairs Office

AL-OWESAT, Iraq — Soldiers of 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) out of Fort Drum, N.Y., detained several men during an air assault mission along the Euphrates River, Aug. 20.

One of the men detained was dressed as a pregnant woman.

Crimson Shogun was an operation targeting al-Qaida-allied terrorist networks in the Owesat and Fetoah areas along the river and brought together more than 100 Soldiers of 2-14 Inf., 50 Iraqi army troops and two local residents who volunteered to help identify terrorists.

Thirteen men were detained for further questioning, one of whom was on the battalion’s list of persons of interest. His brother was also detained, and was found by the Soldiers of Company A, disguised as a pregnant woman in an attempt to avoid capture.

the 10th Mountain is under the same command as the 101st, and the 82nd. Which could be misunderstood as being SF due to the 82nd. They are part of the XVIII Airborne Corps

to my knowledge. (Been a few years).. the SF units are all attached to SOCOM. and include

75th Inf RGT (RANGER)
160th SOAR
and SFCOM.. which has all the SF Groups attached.
with 3rd and 7th SF Groups out of Ft. bragg, as is the SFCOM HQ.

somebody correct if I am wrong.

82nd, 101st and 10th Mountain are AIRBORNE, but nesecarilly Special Forces.. whereas certain units UNDER them could be considered SF. I believe there are some units of the 82nd that are part of the SG Groups at Bragg.

one of you SF guys can shed some light on this, outside of Benning, I dont know the other units that well.

Interestingly, I just heard on NPR (so sue me) that Nigeria Sharia Police had just arrested some men for dressing like women. I don't know what the penalty is, but apparently it's very frowned upon. I wonder if jihadists who do this to escape will subsequently penalized by their own.

Not sure where the confusion about the 10th Mountain Division and SF comes from. This was a 10th Mountain Division OP (there might have been SF but there is no mention of this).

The 101st is not an Airborne unit. They are Air Assault (borne by helicopters) and 101st Soldiers have to earn the Air Assault Badge (rapelling, sling load, etc.). The division is still referred to as Airborne (for historical purposes).

The 10th certainly could have Air Assaulted into the area. The 2-14th was the 10th MTN Division unit in Moghadishu (Blackhawk Down).

Sometimes folks get 10th mtn and 10th SF Grp mixed up, I'm sure that is what has happened here.
