Navy F18 Tests Countermeasures
An F/A-18C Hornet, assigned to the 'Knighthawks' of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 136, tests its flare countermeasures system prior to heading into Iraq on a Close Air Support (CAS) mission in support of U.S. and coalition ground forces on Aug. 17. VFA-136 is part of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 1 embarked aboard nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Enterprise (CVN 65). Enterprise Carrier Strike Group is on a scheduled deployment in support of maritime security operations and the Global War on Terrorism. (U.S. Navy photo)

Love love love the F-18 as a CAS platform. I have some lovely short video clips of our naval comrades raining hate on the unpleasant folk who were debating us with RPGs last November in Afghanistan.
I know nothing about their technological aptitude for the task, the logistical issues, training, anything like that--all I know is that when we asked for help, they came and delivered: on time and on target.

Some E-2 operator is telling that F/A Guy where to go. ;-)
I still have a Zippo lighter I obtained while I was in a squadron that was part of CVW-1.
