Hhhmmm....Something Ain't Right

Posted By Blackfive

Reader Matt D. noticed this AFP photo on Yahoo News and quickly wondering if the projectiles were thrown rather than fired...

Here's the caption that accompanies the AFP phopto

An elderly Iraqi woman shows two bullets which she says hit her house following an early coalition forces raid in the predominantly Shiite Baghdad suburb of Sadr City. At least 175 people were slaughtered on Tuesday and more than 200 wounded when four suicide truck bombs targeted people from an ancient religious sect in northern Iraq, officials said.(AFP/Wissam al-Okaili)

Okay, is it now acceptable to question AFP's ability to evaluate photos for authenticity (unless the projectiles were thrown or maybe spit at the house)?

Someone help me out with this. Wasn't there a similar picture about a month ago? Some old lady's bed catching a couple rounds?

Hmmmm... well, maybe the shooter was a gun control advocate who was using a sling shot? /moonbat

At least they are not 9x9x19's... that would have nailed our guys out right. =;^}

Pretty clean and shiny for something that just shot through a house. I could use whatever that finish is for my brassware.

Maybe I'm crazy but those bullets couldn't have been fired. They still have casing on them. They had to have been thrown or planted.

Honestly, the old women look similar.

I don't do guns: Daddy was in the Army, but he wasn't (and isn't) a gun owner. But I think I know enough to recognize to bullets, and not the spent ones. Only spent one I've seen, I found in my house in Arkansas one November evening after having gone shopping at the mall with a friend of mine. I noticed a weird shadow on the wall next to the back door (the entry hole), then later notices a scuff on the Rubbermaid trash can near the hole, and found the bullet under the door to the entry closet inside the front door. In speaking to my brother, he said it was likely from a handgun, not a rifle (it was short and stubby), but it didn't look like what that woman is holding. I called the police, and the officer they sent out was a good friend's boyfriend, coincidently. I gave him the bullet. They could determine where it came from, but they'd have that bullet in their possesion for whatever comparisions they would want/need to do...

Oh, and depending on the bullet's velocity when it hit the outside wall, I'm lucky it didn't hit the propane tank attached to my gas grill that was sitting on the back porch. I might have come home to a big fireball, instead... Glad it didn't hit either of my dogs in the yard, or any of my cats in the house...

that would be "couldn't determine"... I really should proofread...

The photographer is the same guy, Wissam al-Okaili.

Also, compare the nose. Specifically the nostrils.

Could it be that the rounds hit her house ... when the soldier who was defending it from the jihadis cleared a jam in his weapon?

Talk about ungrateful ...

they sure are purty little things ain't they? all shiney & new... have to agree... if they "hit her house" they must have been thrown -- underhand... left handed by a rightie... who throws like a girl (no offense intended since I throw like a boy)...

Okay....if thrown by your average 2nd Lieutenant,in charge of a D-FAC or say a Unit Supply Room, a 5.56mm round...at 25 meters, wouldn't hurt much. But if you drop an unexploded MOAB (average weight of 21,000 lbs) from the same distance , on your basic "occupied" Iraqi mud hut, your gonna fu*k some people up!

I think that the most interesting thing was in fact NOT the bullets or the old lady. Quite frankly whether 2 bullets hit her house just isn't that important.
But the fact that four bombs went off and killed 175 people and wounded another 200 THAT I thought was newsworthy.
hhhmmmmm.........375 casualties..........Something ain't right.

I think it's pretty amazing that those bullets hit that house, ricocheted, flipped around and managed to insert themselves back into some handy clean cartridge cases, while not getting damaged.

Helluva shot.

John Ryan, once again, proves he is capable of keestering an entire MOAB. What ya got up there John Ryan?....Spread 'em and cough son....you know the routine.

Yewwwwwwwwwww, man hands.

Is she discussing the various qualities and shortcomings of the brass with the reporters?

john ... like I told odanny, 175 deaths is less than a week's worth of death under the rule of Saddam & Sons ... and you and him are content to let that go on forever, just so you can rest assured that your government will NEVER listen in on a phone call of yours ....

... even if listening in on a few other calls could save your life and liberty.

2 things:

where is the discoloration caused by the annealing of the case shoulder to reduce the likelihood of tearing during extraction? US small arms ammo (5.56, 7.62, 12.7)all have it. i've spent enough time on ammo details over the years to testify to that, and the brass is usually much darker.

those rounds are pure shiney: that's sillyvillian ammo, unless the pic is crappy.... (well, it *is* French. %-)

other thing: i dropped a note to AFP, and you can too:
http://www.afp.com/english/afp/?pid=contact
maybe if they get enough bullshit flags tossed on them, they'll get a clue fragment? i don't expect the gallant frogs to reply, but at least we can rub their nose in the escargot.

redc1c4,
just another victim of oppression in the PRC

one more thing, after another beer:

those look too fat to be 5.56, and too short to be 7.62 x 51 NATO......

7.62 x 39 Sillyvillian, anyone?

redc1c4,
i'm jes askin...... %-)

Unfired rounds hit her house? Have about the same effect as stones of equal weight. How dumb can you get?

Is this Baghdad Bob's mamma ... "The Mother of All Propaganda"??
