Die Hard vs. Transformers

I'll keep this brief.

"Live Free or Die Hard" rocks.  Good solid shoot-em-up-entertainment-type movie.  More like the original "Die Hard" than the other sequels.  Of course, you have to suspend disbelief for a few parts of the movie but it really was good all around.  If you like your John McClain really pissed off, smart-alecky, tired, beat-up, and just a bit this side of dead, "Live Free Or Die Hard" will be your best choice.  Justin Long (he's the Apple commercial guy and he was in the most excellent "Dodgeball") was really good in his role as a computer hacker protected by McClain.  Kevin Smith could have been more hilarious, but was still interesting in his cameo as "Warlock."

"Transformers."  Eye candy for people that play with robots.  Shia Labouf was hilarious (the guy can act, even in a movie about giant robots).  However, Michael Bay (the director) needs some new tricks.  "Transformers" is exactly like "Armageddon" (great movie) and "The Rock" which he also directed.  Michael Bay has the USAF pilots always walking out to their planes at sunset, even when the airstrikes are called in at, say, 1500.  So many of the scenes were the same that I felt a little ripped off.  Shia Labouf with a flare=Nick Cage with a flare.  Shia Labouf negotiating with the government=Bruce Willis negotiating with the government ("we won't pay taxes ever again").  I could go on and on.  Still, it was an entertaining movie and they are already planning "Transformers 2."  Oh, and if you're in the USAF and having "relevancy issues" (you shouldn't, but if you are), this movie will reassure you that if giant, alien, transforming bio robots invade Earth, your job is secure...
