Republican Party can't find clue bag

Posted By Uncle Jimbo

The always on point Mary Katharine Ham, points out an RNC that is woefully off point.

Check out the transcript of an actual call my friend Emily got from the RNC last night. I was there to hear it. Unbelievable

I know why I'm an independent. I may vote for 9o+ % Republican candidates, but the party as a whole is eating a soup sandwich while paddling their chicken-wire canoe up Sh** Creek without a paddle. The only thing saving them is that the Dems just opened the screen door on their submarine and came out swinging a football bat wearing bowling cleats. Poxes and houses.

too many jesus freaks in that party as well. anyone that supports the notion of dinosaurs and man existing at the same time belongs in a straight jacket and sure as hell isn't fit for public service.

On the other hand, if I had to chose my neighbors I'd go for creationists over quite a few other groups. Or hire their kids over the local hoodlums.

This idea that there is something socially... harmful about people who believe that dinosaurs and man existed at the same time is an emotional rather than a rational reaction. It's so because people say it's so and not because anyone can point to anything at all about "those people" that makes them bad neighbors or unfit for public service.

What sort of public service, precisely, suffers from an ethos of service and honesty and answering to God for what one does in private?

Tom- Thanks for your input. Now have a big slug of STFU or a steaming mug of hot sour owl shit for breakfast!

Uncle JimBlow- Republicans in a chicken-wire canoe....loved it! Wonder what KIM Jong Il has to say about this emmaglaytion brill?

Some one is going to make a ton of dough selling 'cero peso' notes and tee-shirts.

I did not agree with 'punishing' (by electing a libdem Congress) the GOP last November. I used to believe any republican was better than a libdem (they're so like Tom's comment to 'stalinize' - anyone who dissenst is nuts and needs to be locked up - people with whom they disagree), but now . . .

Since the 2000 election, I hang up on the phony GOP money callers. They're so stupid, they keep trying.

Which would you rather be around, Jesus Freaks or Darwin Freaks? Let me look at history for a second. Ok, Jesus Freak: George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Sir Isaac Newton. Now for the Darwin Freak: Hitler, Stalin, and Mussolini. Yeah, I will stay with the ones that pattern themselves after Jesus’ tenants.

As for Darwin’s theory I direct you to a wonderful book “Darwin's Black Box: The Biochemical Challenge to Evolution” by Michael Behe. Personally, I don’t care what you believe as long as you are open to counter beliefs on their merits.

It's hard to fully get behind any party, since the leadership is so god-awful dumb in most cases, or they're over-educated, slick, and superficial. Personally, I blame it on the process that we've created - a year and a half of hell for whoever can afford to run. As a result, we don't get the best and the brightest. We get the mediocre and the power-hungry.

I don't know about you, but I think we can condense this whole election model into one that's no more than 3 months long - start to finish, with no PAC or lobbyist money to taint the candidates with. Personal donations only.

T. Shaw,

I am with you completely.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around Uncle J's analogies....chicken wire canoe in s**t creek and a screen door on a sub.....bowling shoes.....

"football bat"......

Are these the sort of Christians whom you can use 'torture' as a selling point?

http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2007/05/verschfte_verne.html

"Critics will no doubt say I am accusing the Bush administration of being Hitler. I'm not. There is no comparison between the political system in Germany in 1937 and the U.S. in 2007. What I am reporting is a simple empirical fact: the interrogation methods approved and defended by this president are not new. Many have been used in the past. The very phrase used by the president to describe torture-that-isn't-somehow-torture - "enhanced interrogation techniques" - is a term originally coined by the Nazis. The techniques are indistinguishable. The methods were clearly understood in 1948 as war-crimes. The punishment for them was death."

Hmm, creationism? Torture,.. urm I mean verschfte verne is the real social harm and it's eagerly supported.

Tom ... get a clue, willya?

It takes more faith to believe that there is no God, than it does to believe in Him ... for in doing so, you are putting your faith in a species that has repeatedly illustrated their fallibility, when it comes to accurately and completely perceive the universe.

Don't fool yourself ... just because you might not invoke any form of Divine Providence in your belief system, does not mean that your viewpoint is ANY LESS faith-based than my own, despite declarations to the contrary in the name of "science".

Now -- back on topic ...

Listening to Mark Levin last night, I heard a report that grassroots (low-dollar) donations to the RNC are down 40% -- and the feedback is that it is the immigration issue -- and ONLY that issue -- that has closed the wallets of this base.

Looks like more and more, like this independent, are choosing to support the man ... not the party.

In that regard, watch Fred Thompson's fundraising results in the near term ... methinks that much of this money withheld from the RNC will find its way into his campaign coffers, for he seems to have it right on the immigration issue.

Professional political operatives ... work with 'em ... work around them.

Bowling cleats; sweet.

Lincoln and Washington jesus freaks? please.

the irony in all this of course, is the parallels between fundamental Islam and conservative christianity. really not much of a difference. both are closed minded views that simply shutoff what the real world is about. tell you what, next time you or a loved one is sick with cancer or something, ignore science[since it has no validity anyway] and go pray to some god and see what happens. better yet forget science all together, shutoff your pc and walk your damn ass to your scientifically engineered jesus center.

last I checked the USA was a secular society. Not some puritan bullshit. Scary how many christians would like to turn the USA into the christian version of Pakistan.

“the irony in all this of course, is the parallels between fundamental Islam and conservative christianity. really not much of a difference.”

Your asshat is too tight. Considering how much you wear it I’d think it would be stretched out by now.

It is not just the immigration issue, gents. I told the teledonors to pack sand because I would not support Republicans who refused to support Victory in Iraq. Either they begin answering the charges that we are losing with determination and guts, or they are no better than the Dhimmis.

And thanks to comments by Chuck Hagel, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, Arlen Specter, and now even Jeff Sessions, I cannot support any politician that thinks the answer to Islamic aggression is retreat.

When they bring a knife, you brign a gun. When they put one of ours in the hospital, you put one (or more) or theirs in the morgue.

Al Qaeda and the Islamic Army in Iraq and the 1920 Brigades are no better than Al Capone. And need to be killed and pursued just as diligently.

Screw the Dhimmicrats and the Republicans. They are all cowards for advocating Defeat.

Subsunk

Woah there big shooter,

Nobody is turning America into anything other than a secular society. I have some differences with Christians on policy, but I fear them not at all from a societal persepective and if I was the white picket fence type I'd probably choose to live amongst them rather than non-believers if required to choose.

But I'm not, so I dom my Jane Goodall stuff here in heathen-town.
I realize we are due for a religion v. secular showdown as bits are obviously being chomped at, but let's keep it civil eh?

Cordially,

Uncle J

If you really can't tell the difference between a religion who's iconic figure emphasized loving one's enemies and "turning the other cheek" and one who took a 9 year old girl for a wife, recommended killing the Jews at every opportunity, and demanded that his followers spread the faith by the sword, then you sir, are unhinged.

Reality check time. How many Christian suicide bombers have you met? Ever seen an Lutheran death squad? Any Evangelicals slaughtering Methodists in the streets? I thought not. When Christians get riled up the send a sternly worded note. When Muslims get riled up, they behead people.

GET A CLUE.

In reference to what Synova said, creationists may be better people than Ttom precisely because of the evolutionary theories of natural selection and improvement through fighting and competition. There's little to no competition for the evolutionary dead end branch of environmentalism, concerning human proponents. So they stagnant, they stay the same because they fill their niche and they do not need to change to survive, so they remain the same. While the new comer to an eco-system must adapt and be very efficient, or else they will be wiped out given their newness.

A clue is too expensive for tom. Please everybody, chip in for his poorness.

Joseph, thank you for saying what I was going to say to Tom re: Christianity and Islam.

Joseph,

A Lutheran death squad?? Maybe from the Wisconsin Synod.......

All kidding aside, tom, did a Christian piss in your wheaties this morning? I suppose that's better than loping your head off...

you guys don't know how lucky you are. I live in Canada, where our Conservatives are liberal. I don't like any religious generalizations from someone not in the know. Christians are no danger to anyone, and of the muslims over here you have nothing to worry about. I grew up in Toronto which is as multicultural and multi faith as any city can hope to get. Even more so than New York City. what I have learned is that the vast majority of folks here like it. Doesn't matter your background or anything, what we have in North America is better than anywhere else in the world. Personally I think the lack of compromise between liberal and conservatives poses a much greater threat. Not a compromise of ideals or goals, but practical compromise to ensure things get better and not worse. That is what seems to be absent in our Parliament and your Congress

I used to write checks to the RNC. About 3 years I stopped and sent back there latest survey / request for money with a note that until they got control over the border and stopped wasting my tax money, they were cut-off.

@Ymar: creationists may be better people than Tom precisely because of the evolutionary theories of natural selection and improvement through fighting and competition.

Uh, what about the natural selection involved in attaining natural science accreditation? What percentage of these great people who visit that new museum actually question any of it?

Pft. Dinosaurs and people, are you NUTS?

Sorry UJ, if you where indeed referring to me. I’m just sick of people comparing ANY religion with Islam and that’s coming from an Atheist.

Tom check this lovely pics of some fundamental Muslims at work :

http://www.savage-productions.com/beheaded_soldiers_iraq.html

When you find some that compare to what conservative Christians do please forward them for all of us to see.

Ymar: you know I have to post something if tom posts.

I am not a religious person, never have been. I am Democrat, but do not always vote that way. I think I will change to Independent. Because I really do not want a call from the Democrats at all, I am very rude when it comes to soliciting. I think it is in poor taste because I would not give a dime to either side. Maybe my middle finger, but not money.

As far as tom's comment; well you have to excuse him, he has been out of whack ever since the pointy high heel shoe episode. He just keeps sputtering "pointy high heel, pointy high heel, pointy high heel...OUCH!!!:)

One of the reasons the "Christian West" (if you want to call it that) is losing the perceptions war to the "Muslim East" is because they are playing Mickey Mouse to a Tyrranasaurus Rex.

There's no point in trying to draw an equivalency between the two systems of belief. Islam, although I'm no expert, seems to demand both spiritual and civic obedience as part of a comprehensive ideology -- strictures on what to eat, how to dress, how to live, what to sacrifice for, etc.... They have their own earthly law, Sharia, to govern these things. Christianity allows for civic secularism. and focuses on the individual's inner relationship with God more than political organization or governmental structure. You're pious out of personal acceptance, not because the State is forcing you to. (Rich?)

Our idea of secular liberty actually grew out of Christian principles. At some level, it borrows from the Greco-Roman seeds of "Democracy" or "The Republic." But overall, it mandates that all can follow their own beliefs under a political framework built on "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they're endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights..." When people talk about America's Judeo-Christian heritage, I think this is what they mean. That may be the framework, but within it, anyone can believe whatever they want because God gave them that right.

Where do the ideas of "human rights", "freedom of worship" and "peaceful coexistance" come from? Their root is Christianity. Does that mean it's superior, or should be imposed on everyone? No. It means no religion should be imposed from the State upon everyone, or held above other religions. There's the essential difference between the two belief systems: Sharia does that, and gives non-believers penalties and second-class status. To Westerners, that sounds alot like (to put it in 18th Century parlance) tyranny.

We can all see that the two are still compatible, however, just by looking around at Muslim-Americans who seek that freedom, go about productive lives contributing to society, and could care less what anyone else's religion is.

Well darn it!

After punching at the keyboard for a good 5-10 minutes with an assortment of a pox on both political houses and some snark for Tommy, I read Jordan's comments before I pulled the trigger.

Now all I have to say is....

What Jordan said.

“We can all see that the two are still compatible, however, just by looking around at Muslim-Americans who seek that freedom, go about productive lives contributing to society, and could care less what anyone else's religion is.”

Less the 25% who think it’s OK to blow oneself up to defend Islam.

The party has lost it's way...thanks to the RINO's. They've managed to do what the left has allowed to happen to their party, which is: allow those in the extreme to define what the party is, and what it's meaning should be.

For the GOP, that "extreme" is the center. Yes, there are extremes to the far far far right...and I don't care for those folks either. However, somewhere in the cushy center between the RINO middle-ground and facism is where the party once was.

Can it get there again? Who knows. Maybe with Newt, and hopefully with Fred. However, thanks to the likes of Lindsey Graham and John "McTemper" McCain, we've had far too much damage done. It's time for the rescue, and if that doesn't happen, it's time to abandon the sinking ship.

The dems are comfortable with the communist-terrorist appeasers driving their wagon....but true conservatives don't like to change drivers, and that is what has happened. And it all started with "compassionate conservatism" (ala Bush). Don't get me wrong, I voted for the man twice...however, I wouldn't again. The 2nd time I voted for him, it was because I had the interests of our troops in mind, as the left clearly does not (IMO).

Go Fred Go!

LisaV: That is in essence, the second part of what I had typed earlier...

Aw heck, here be the rant I withheld earlier... My apologies up front for said rant as IMO rants without action are worthless and hollow threats of action. So I’ll have to figure out some way to help make meaningful change and act on it.

[setenv RANT 1]

Poxes and houses

Yup, uber-poxes on both of their houses.

These days when I think of what we face as a nation and who we are given in the primaries at the national and even the state levels as choices for positions of leadership by not just the GOP but by both major political parties, I am always approaching the ballot with a firmly pinched nose. Then again, considering the money required to compete at these levels, the disingenuous maneuvering and pandering that the politico’s must observe, the snappy 30 second sound-bite position statements of the day, and the ability to withstand the abuses of any and all when a person steps forward to serve the public, I am amazed to an ever larger degree that we have anyone willing to participate and that we have peaceful elections and power transitions at all.

After 35 years of thinking that the GOP was the party of people with a realistic assessment of the world and the long view of our nation's security within that world, of a strong, resolute national defense, of fiscal responsibility, of less government, and last but certainly not least, of law & order, and after faithfully voting in every election based on that premise, I now feel abandoned by the GOP. Rode hard and put up wet as it were.

I am reminded of Ronald Reagan's reply when asked why he left the Democratic party which was something along the lines of ( and this is not necessarily verbatim because I'm not looking it up, do it for yourself if you're so inclined) ,

I didn't, they left me
.

At this time, and it's only MHO, but term limits would be a step in the right direction. Funny how the GOP came to power using that one idea as a cornerstone with the Contract With America.

Can anyone claim to be surprised when it’s revealed that the padding one's own nest at the expense of the country is not uncommon when a US House or US Senate seat is occupied for decades?

None of this touches on the lack of interest paid to government by many in the population.

I’m just an old methane eruption but I am of the opinion that both parties have abandoned their core constituents’ from an arrogant presumption of limited choice. I think it is time for a 3rd party… a Bull Moose revival for lack of a better label.

[setenv RANT 0]

And I know that this is a silly question, but just for S&G's I'm going to ask how/why did religion and Darwin become relevant to the discussion? Oh wait, was it because of an angry mob of 7th Day Adventists who planted an IED inside a Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall, just before the Mormons stole all the Baptists rattlesnakes and the Methodists issued a fatwa condemning to death to all Catholics for eating fish and drinking beer on Fridays?

Tom you really need to produce PSA’s on the dangers of the Christian religion. Wake up the nation before it's too late Tom! All that potential Christian violence seething just below the surface... Dear Gaia help us all, and may the lab technicians preserve us.

Again, apologies for the rant, I'm better now... well at least I think so.

see my comment above with the link to Lutheran death squads on Iowahawk. If you haven't seen it and you're anywhere near or from the midwest it is funny as anything!!

I think he wants you to tie him down, Rita. Maybe put a gag on him so that he doesn't have to spout off all the time. He really really wants to control himself Rita, and he needs your help to do it!

Will you please find it in your heart, to whip tom into shape?

It's time for *something*. If not a third party then some major upsetting of the status quo.

Granted, I registered Libertarian last time I registered to vote. I mean, why the heck not, huh? And I do have to admit that the refrain, "The Democrats and their clones the Republicans," strikes a deep and resonant chord... in which ever direction it's said.

On Wizbang a couple of the Dem/liberal commentors jump on any sign of Republican upset with a sort of gleeful "you guys are soooo toast" attitude while missing the important part of it all... What the Republicans are getting wrong and getting in trouble for, the Democrats do *more*. A pox, as the man said, on *both* their houses.

I'm still trying to figure out tom's leap from RINOs to creationists. *scratching head - gotta stop because it's gonna bleed*.

And by what logic does he conclude that humans and dinosaurs couldn't have co-existed? Fossil records don't exclude this.

Curious minds want to know, but a rational answer would be appreciated. Oh, wait, I'm a Christian so I guess I can't be rational and demand some proof. Never mind.

And I too am sick of both parties and the politics being played with our brave men and women and our country. They ought all to be kicked out en masse and sent to live in extreme poverty somewhere else.

Thanks Old Tanker...

Iowahawk is my light in the darkness. I am Redneck Hiaku!

""Ya, we're done doin' dat assimilatin' eh?" said Jarvenpaa. "Now it's your turn."

=8-}

If anyone hasn't read the Iowahawk thing about Lutherans... Go. Now. Read it!

I grew up with these people and I say that Wisconsin Synod are... well, I get in "my denomination is more conservative than your denomination" arguments with Missouri Synod Lutherans. They never believe me. *sigh* I've no doubt they make the Wisconsin sort look down right moderate.

But those boys from a Suomi Lutheran background... ja, those are some good looking young men. Beards grow in *blond* don't cha know. Very different from all those red bearded Norwegians. Exotic, even.

Oops... I think I got sidetracked.

Religion and Politics...two animals that should never be crossbred. One is of this world and one is not.

Well, I am sorry for pushing the comments away from the original topic. The fact is that both parties are only after their own power and could care less about the course of America or the people they represent. I thought at one time that Republicans at least stood a better chance of leading us in the proper direction. That thought has now died and I look for a better solution.

Calling Washington, Lincoln, and Newton Jesus Freaks was simply utilizing the words of the original commenter as I am sure that to that person anyone who believes in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord God and Savior is a freak. These people did believe this.

The point I was trying to make, and failed, was that Christianity is a belief that leads to the betterment of society while Darwinian theory ultimate conclusion is one of man dominating man . I would be more than happy to discuss this with anyone outside of the comment list.

Finally, the sloppiness of the English language creates many problems when discussing religion and faith. Christianity/Christian and Islam/Muslim is a faith or belief system. Religion on the other hand is man led doctrinal structures to help people to better fullfill their faith. The difference is important when making discussions. Islam as a faith based on the Quran shows man must destroy non-belief. Islam as doctinally practiced by different religions moderates this teaching as metaphorically and some of the religions dwell specifically on destruction of non-believers by all means necessary. This is why there are peacfull and violent practicing Muslims. Christianity on the other hand as a faith wants man to evangalize but to leave the choice up to the people. Christianity does not preach violent action. Now Christian religions through the ages have doctrinally taught that unbelievers should be tortured to death or conversion. Man is egotistically flawed and can ruin the greatest of things on earth.

So there have been Christians that have acted like the Islamo-fasicsts today. Thankfully Christian religions purged itself of the political power grabbing and hope of world dominance through the mid-ages-late 17th century even though there are some sects that are still preaching this tact. Islamic religions or sects have never stopped the power play while there are some sects that are well past the violent ways of conversion.

bthun - I totally agree.
The party has indeed "left me"....by their own hand...by their own deeds...by their own inaction, and by their own words...they have left me.

I *know* it can be reclaimed....but it will take the likes of Fred or Newt to do it. (IMO, anyway).

Personally, I believe any and all of this should be over at Victory Caucus, but thats just me talkin'. I'm half thinking about staying in the ME till this all blows over and vote absentee. At least the TV coverage couldn't get any worse...

Where are we headed? A 'Kakistocracy' as MM put in her blog. Ask any General who's tried to reform inside the Pentagon.

The stories from here that are brewing...

"What sort of public service, precisely, suffers from an ethos of service and honesty and answering to God for what one does in private?"

Nothing.

The problem is that they expect everyone else to (A) Answer to the same God they do. and they want to,(B)Enforce obedience to that same God by using the Government to penalize anybody that doesn't act strictly in accordance with the rules laid down in their little book.

Which is how you end up with Government-approved and sanctioned sexual positions between married and unmarried folk in their own bedroom.

Religion needs to stay out of science and vice versa. Fundamental to science is the ability to throw its theories away as soon as better ones (i.e. ones that describe phenomena more accurately) emerge. Religion, on the other hand, is based on faith and people who ascribe to religion definitely don't put their religion on the line with experiments or even seem to allow the possibility that other religions may be "truer." Also, science doesn't rule out God, so people need to stop getting upset about teaching evolution. If you think it does, then you should read Darwin's own Origin of Species, as Darwin very much shows he believes in God and that His work is in evolution.

Anyway, if you guys and gals are looking for a candidate with a strong Christian philosophy and who seems to be the only traditional conservative running, I suggest Ron Paul. He is definitely independent of these pro-amnesty, neo-con republicans. At the heart of his philosophy is do unto others as you would have them do unto you, as well as the U.S. constitution, which I consider divine in itself

yo jake...Ron Paul made a complete ass out of himself at the debates and Rudy shut him down. He's a non-issue.

Back to the religion thing...i have had far to much experience with the do unto others any thing you please, just don't get caught.
the nice thing about faith is that usually people who behave that way and make no ammends, generally
end up experiencing God's way of making things come out right. A truly transformational experience. You are right the constitution is "semi-divinely inspired" and the ammendments are as well. Of course, one does occaisionally run across a loony or two that believe those constitutional rights still to this day should only belong to men. People think I am kidding when I say that but I could tell you a few stories....

*too many jesus freaks in that party as well.*

Could you please define "jesus freaks" ? I suspect without the Jesus freaks in the GOP, you're going to be left with the atheist economists and not much else. You'd be lucky to beat John Edwards much less Hillary Clinton.

But oh no, keep alienating those "extremist christians". I note those wacky baptists took another shot at Kennedy airport today.

Wait, they weren't baptists ? But godbags are just as bad im telling you!!

I have been a registered Republican since the 1960s. I contribute to candidates and to the party, as well, because their principles mirror mine. I believe the Constitution is a simple document that means exactly what it says. I believe in the rule of law. When I spend money, I make certain I have it. I practice self reliance. When America needed me to serve, I did so willingly and with great pride.

When our government sends its youth into battle, that government is obligated to see it through, regardless of personal political cost. I never expected the Democrats to understand that, but the Republicans were there for adult supervision. Now it appears they are nervous about the polls.

When we drew our borders, the federal government was obligated to enforce those borders in accordance with the laws. It is unfair to make a legal immigrant wait 10 years for a visa, while granting the same status to an individual who enters illegally. The Immigration reform bill will legalize 12M to 20M unskilled illegal immigrants and will allow them to bring in their families (for totals of 66M to 103M people). Each new low income family will contribute $9K in tax revenue while consuming $30K annually. Who will get the $22K bill?

I have contributed as much as $1500 per year to the GOP. Unless I see a change, that's over.

It appears the Republicans have left me.

"...all Experience hath shewn, that Mankind are more disposed to suffer, while Evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the Forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long Train of Abuses and Usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a Design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their Right, it is their Duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future Security."

It reads as true today as it did at the beginning of this great nation.

Naked:

Get dressed!

"I have been driven upon my knees many times because I realized I had no where else to go."

Abraham Lincoln

President Lincoln became a Christian while in office. This is why some have said that there were two Lincolns. And spiritually there were. It is rumored that he was led to Christ by his son's nurse after the death of the boy in 1962.

The seeds of Linconl's faith were laid by his mother and later his step-mother who schooled him extensively in the Bible from which he could quote liberally even before his decision for Christ.

Washington's faith existed from his childhood. After becoming a public figure he spoke of God many many times using the 18th century term Providence. If you guffaw at that term Providence as indicating God recall from your childhood the term Holy Ghost used for the third person of the Trinity. Now the in vouge term is Holy Spirit.

It is the death of philosophy and history that lead to the death of civilizations. That so many today are ignorant of both is telling.
