RCT-6 Update: 4,970 emails and Three Flags
Sgt. Deboard writes this morning to tell us that we're at 4,970 emails. The sudden jump -- two days ago we were at 1,700 and slowing -- has gotten him wondering just how many emails will really come in.
The Marines he's been passing them out to are very pleased. They may not have time to write back, of course, but he wanted you to know it's making a difference to them.
So much of a difference, in fact, that the RCT wants to do a little something to celebrate. They've decided to send a gift to the 6,000th person to email them.
They'll fly an American flag at RCT-6 HQ, and them mail it to you. The flags will come with a certificate showing your name and the date on which it was flown. It's the Regimental Combat Team's way of showing you how much they appreciate all the support that has suddenly been flowing their way.
If they get 10,000 emails, they'll do it again for the 10,000th. And if they someday get 20,000 -- it's hard to say how many emails might eventually show up over time -- they will do it yet again.
I know none of you who've written did it with the thought that the RCT might send you something in return -- we did it for the Marines. They've noticed, though, and it's meant a lot to them.
Keep it up.

And remember their blog, too. Good post today on the mechanics who keep their rigs running.

And I've got some advice on getting it done. Just start it. And don't even address why the anti-military, anti-America, anti-Bush side is wrong. Just tell this one Marine why you appreciate... [Read More]

Grimmers! I am going to win that flag! Somebody ought to start this for the Eighty Duece...that would be cool.
You put the Fi in Semper Fi!

jordan! LOL! just get to writing, kiddo! Are your digits sore yet?!!!

I've already got mine! My Marine son brought me back a flag flown in Anbar last year with his unit.
Since the area around 29 Palms now has a new population of camel spiders that came back with returning Marines as eggs in their sandbags, I've put the flag into a baggie and into the freezer to avoid introducing any of those critters into Virginia.
I haven't flown it yet, I am holding it to fly alongside the USMC banner when my son redeploys on his second Iraqi tour next Spring.
Even so, I'm sending aother email today to RCT-6. Everyone join in and let's show them how much we care.

To ProudMarineDad, you have received a well deserved flag. Thank you for your sacrifice and especially for your brave son's sacrifice for our country! Please pass my thanks along to him when you get the chance.

I've been sending emails without the possibility of winning a flag, but now there is that "will I be?. . . ." aspect every time I send one.

I agree, but it's got to be an inside job. Somebody at Division HQ or even one of the Brigade Combat Teams HQ for that Team. From Mike Yon's experience, it sounds like PA in the Army's got some motivation and/or intellect issues.
Or maybe it's a Command issue. Col. Simcock, CO RCT-6, clearly wanted his Marines to hear from Americans, that we have their backs, so they could ignore the numerically challenged, but loud, lunatic Left. He said make it happen and lo! His Marines are getting emails.
Seems to me, anyhow ...

AS AN OLD FEMALE MARINE VET I AM NOT DOING THIS FOR THE FLAG. I JUST WANT OUR MARINES KNOW THAT WE ARE VERY PROUD OF THEM. WE ARE FREE BECAUSE OF THEM. GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM. SEMPER FI

Great project! Glad to add my thanks from the former to the serving.

Anyone sending jokes? I sent one in addition to some others. Here it is.
A man hears a voice... "take all your money to Las Vegas, Caesars Palace, # 21 on Roulette, any table"
He ignores it. The next day, the same voice.... "take all your money to Las Vegas, Caesars Palace, # 21 on Roulette, any table"
He again ignores it. This goes on for a few weeks with the voice coming every night as he's going to sleep. One day, his car breaks down, he loses his job and has some other troubles and he thinks maybe he'll take a chance. He sells all of his worldly possessions and flies to Las Vegas, gets a room at Caesars Palace and after dinner heads down to the gaming tables.
He walks up to the first roulette table he sees and puts all of his money on # 21.
17 comes up.
The voice says "Damnit".

Badger 6:
Then tell PA, Command or whoever to get off the dime, make it happen and give us access! Like Col. Simcock did.

Soldiers Angels are working hard on getting to that 6,000 mark. But with the flag incentive I think it will get a few more people to limber up those ole digits! The entire Letter Writing Team has joined the challenge! I will post on the SA forums again to see if we can get more angels on board.

I just sent the devildogs a message that contained these two beautiful quotes:
It appears we have appointed our worst generals to command forces, and our most gifted and brilliant to edit newspapers! In fact, I discovered by reading newspapers that these editor/geniuses plainly saw all my strategic defects from the start, yet failed to inform me until it was too late. Accordingly, I'm readily willing to yield my command to these obviously
superior intellects, and I'll, in turn, do my best for the cause by writing editorials - after the fact.
Robert E. Lee, 1863
"I hate newspapermen. They come into camp and pick up their camp rumors and print them as facts. I regard them as spies, which, in truth, they are. If I killed them all there would be news from Hell before breakfast."
- Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman
got those from Micheal Ledeen at the Corner. Great stuff, no?
