Billy Arkin sasses the Milblog Conference

Posted By Uncle Jimbo

Badgers Forward puts in an app for Billy Arkin's gig at the WashPo, brilliant. I think I may annex his unit to Wisconsin, Badgers indeed.

I should preface this by noting that I think Billy Arkin who blogs for the WashPo is a pathetic wanking device, who was captured by the East Germans during his brief stint in the Army. They removed his spine and his rational thinking capacity and then sent him back to us.

So Billy saw fit to train his condescending eye on the offenses of the Milblog Conference, first of which was to slight such an eminence as his punk ass

I've been wanting to write about the 2nd Annual MilBlog conference (I wasn't invited)

Like a group of people you have been openly and bitterly rude and disrespectful to had any obligation to even tolerate you had you shown, but a need to reach out personally and ask for you to befoul the event. Hardly.

Now Billy's piece was titled If Only War Reporting Were More Like Sports Reporting, and I am not going to address his thesis as it and his reasoning showed the effects of those East German mind mechanics. Seriously it's dumb and he is a crap writer. On to the lashings.

Let's see if I can do this without insulting either baseball fans or bloggers. Blogging baseball fans, I ask for your forgiveness preemptively.

Shut up Billy I just said we are not talking about your dumbass analogy.

The MilBloggers got an extra boost of attention after the news about the Army's "crackdown" on blogs, with the overheated claim that the new operations security (OPSEC) and bandwidth rules cut off soldiers from their families and restricting people's freedoms. An extra boost from whom, you ask? From the mainstream media they so seemingly despise -- with various noterati of the MilBlog world being interviewed and quoted regarding the impact of the military's new rules.

Matty was all over NPR and Oprah and both of us got quoted in the leftiest Brit paper the Guardian, I really liked the bit they took from me.

One posting to Black Five, from Uncle Jimbo, described the Pentagon's move as "an incandescently stupid decision of the military to allow the anal-retentive, mistake-avoidance police have their way".

More Billy

As I see it, beyond the social networking and communications functions, the Milblogs have set themselves up as an anti-news media squad. The conference included many discussions of the deficiencies of mainstream press coverage of Iraq. In fact, some people actually believe that, with the availability of worldwide news on the Web and the emergence of military blogs, the Pentagon press corps and even the mainstream news media is obsolete.

I love his "Can you believe these Ya-hoos" tone, some of them believe something man you really got em. Very few if any of the folks at that conference believe what you made up, but if you are representative of the mighty Washington Post we don't come off looking too bad. We realize we do not replace the MSM, yet, but we sure as heck fact check them and a good thing we do 'cuz the truth takes a beating.

In war as opposed to baseball, an attitude that has become more and more pronounced during the Iraq war is that the team -- the U.S. military and the American soldier in particular -- can't be criticized. There is no room to call someone to task -- not even a general -- for his managing, fielding or batting errors, no matter how egregious. Not only are the details held quite closely as to who is responsible, but to actually hold the team itself accountable is to be disloyal to the big team, the country.

Let's see, Rumsfeld's gone and W put new guys in as top dog in Iraq and CENTCOM. Just about every retired General on earth has been on a show describing how much better things would have been if they had just been in charge. Somehow this all escaped the seeking eye of our Billy. If Billy can't tell the difference between our legitimate complaints about biased , unfair and incorrect reporting and a blanket ban (enforced how?) that doesn't exist and is simply another soldier in his straw army, his bust. That's more than he deserves but it is my part to do the light work of the milblogosphere smacking down the occasional twit.
