Palestinian cease fires & other fantasies
One of the brilliant suggestions that the Baker Iraq Study Group came up with was tying our efforts in Iraq to successful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian meta-quagmire. Proving both the overall uselessness of Realpolitik and of the bi-partisan committee with one idea was quite a coup. There is no way to negotiate peace with the representatives of that collection of UN-sponsored stateless terrorists called the Palestinians. They have spent 50+ years avoiding the simple reality of the existence of the state of Israel. They have fashioned an entire worldview on their status as aggrieved victims who must be restored to the days of bread and roses when a peaceful, prosperous Palestine reigned from the Jordan to the Mediterranean. Oh wait that never happened. More fantasy from the AP and the peaceful Palestinians.
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip - Hamas militants fired a barrage of rockets and mortar shells toward Israel on its independence day Tuesday, and said they considered it the end of a five-month truce with Israel.
Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, whose Hamas-led government negotiated the cease-fire with its militant wing, blamed Israel: "We made great efforts at keeping the truce and there was a positive Palestinian position, but unfortunately this position was met by expanding the aggression and escalating it against the Palestinian people," he said. "It's not a Palestinian problem, it is an Israeli problem."
The great efforts made by Hamas to keep the truce involved daily rocket attacks from areas they "govern" into Israel. That is their version of a truce and AP goes right along with the absolute BS that they have done their part, it's just those evil Jooooos.
The barrage, which came on Israel's 59th independence day, did not cause any damage or injury, but it marked the first time Hamas acknowledged firing shells toward Israel since agreeing to a cease-fire along the Gaza-Israel border in November. Hamas is tightly organized, and Israel says attacks from Gaza have the tacit approval from the militant group's political leaders.
"Acknowledged firing shells" FFS it is not like we need them to acknowledge that it is happening, the Israelis have been watching these things take off and blow up in Israel since the "truce" was enacted. More Palestinian fables
Hamas had held back attacks on Israel for months, especially during power-sharing talks with the Fatah movement of moderate President Mahmoud Abbas. A spokesman for the Islamic group's armed wing said the group considered the truce over.
"The cease-fire has been over for a long time, and Israel is responsible for that," the spokesman, Abu Obeida, told the Voice of Palestine radio station. "We are ready to kidnap more and more, and kill more and more of your soldiers."
And there you have the whole situation in a nutshell. The Palestinians live in a bubble of international aid, unabashed media support, and international anti-Semitism. These factors allow them to ignore reality or invent their own which will be transmitted as gospel by the sycophantic media. The worldwide left (UN, media, Old Europe, the Arab street) is wholly invested in the feelgood they get from standing up for the poor victimized Palestinians, sadly this is as big a farce as a Hamas cease fire. Peace has always been available, it simply requires recognizing the right of Israel to exist. That ought to be the first requirement for acceptance as civilized human beings, but standards are all relative, eh?
