Gathering of Eagles- Order v. Chaos

Posted By Uncle Jimbo

Put aside all the crazy costumes and deranged signs on one side, ignore the leather jackets and profusion of American flags on the other and you can boil down the events in DC to what each group left behind. B5 reader V5 was there with Seejanemom and Sniper1 and he made the following observation.

Another thing I noticed.  The hippie, anti-war, love-mother-earth, peta, answer, code pinkos group left litter and trash everywhere. When they left, their AO was TRASHED!!  On the other hand, the GoE  people conducted a police-call and left their area clean. How ironic is that?

That is what I take away from the protests this weekend, which tracks decently with conservative v. liberal right? Except the construct lacks some subtleties that I think matter. Too many folks consider the right to be all about the power of the establishment, or the man, to keep the people down. While the left is supposed to be this caring nurturing safety net that protects those ignored by society. There is truth in both of those, but hardly a complete one.

In reality the best parts of conservative philosophy are those calling for personal responsibility. The idea that you alone are accountable for what you do and that you should strive to do virtuous things and avoid actions that harm others. It also means that you don't expect others to pull your weight. The parts of liberal/progressive philosophy that are most dangerous are those that believe society has a responsibility to care for everyone and that no person is accountable for their failure to achieve. This leads to the scene not by V5. The Eagles organized an ad hoc police call to take care of the messes they had made, this was not mandated from some central planning committee that allocates tasks based on needs of the group. It was the good consciences of those folks who had taken their own initiative to come support our troops. they were not sponsored by a socialist group, they scrimped and did without in many cases to get there. Yet once there, they felt a personal responsibility to not befoul it.

The tens of thousands spent by ANSWER and Big Labor, to make signs somehow didn't manage to fund any garbage clean up, and unsurprisingly the team who wants somebody else to take care of them counted on the Park Service to clean up the trail of slime they left behind.

V5_mm_bryan_p V5 with MM, sporting a natty Commie-style cap (she pwns the cap), and Bryan Preston from Hot Air. Both of thise sites have excellent coverage of the event. V5 had this to say about Michelle.

I also met Michelle Malkin.  She remembered an email that I sent her about two years ago and struck up a friendly conversation with me. She was every bit the lady.  She's also gracious, witty, quick to smile, and very intelligent.  I was very impressed with her. HotAir and her appearances on the news definitely don't do her justice. She's way cooler in person. Photo courtesy of Sniper1, both he and Seejane have nice Flickr sets.

Here is a pic from reader Michael B from Denver showing Doug, Dan Marty and him as part of the long red, white and blue line along the protest route.

Doug_dan_amd_me All praise to the Redhead Infidel and all the other organizers, head to the GOE site and thank them.

And a note that reminds us why everyone was in DC.

Hi,

I don't know if you guys are aware, but anysoldier.com is in desperate need of funds to stay up this month. Through their work over 114,000 soldiers are able to receive much needed equipment and morale boosters. If there is anyway you guys can let people know I am sure they would appreciate it.

For anyone who missed this weekend, I had fun with my local moonbats as well incl. video. Bravo to a hugely successful event that showed that the left will never be able to dominate our public spaces.
