Remembrance Day for the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment in Iraq

For our most stalwart allies from the United Kingdom, here is a video taken from B-Roll from the Basra (Iraq) Combat Camera Team that I spliced together of the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment honoring Remembrance Day in Iraq.  Unfortunately, the audio didn't work for the Ode of Remembrance.  The video features "The Last Post" and interviews with British Captain Joe Smith and Corporal Ben Powell...

They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
"Ode of Remembrance" - Laurance Binyon, 1914

The Commonwealth countries mark November 11th as Remembrance Day which is more akin to our Memorial Day than the shared date of our Veterans Day.  Remembrance Day is a day to commemorate the sacrifice of veterans and civilians in wars.

The video begins with the Last Post - originally a bugle call used in British camps to signal the end of the day. The name derives from the practice of inspecting all the sentry posts around such a camp at the end of the day, and playing a bugle call at each of them. The "last post" was thus the last point of this inspection, and the bugle call signalling that this post had been inspected marked the end of the military day.

It is the UK version of Taps.

The first soldier to receive the Victoria Cross since the Falklands was from the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment and we honored him here at Blackfive as Someone You Should Know...

(Note:  Video working now.)
