Go Big, Go Long and Go Home...

3 possible choices, 3 possible strategies, 3 of the same o' same o'.  That's how I see these three courses that have come out lately.  With the exception of 'Go Home' we have tried these without much impact.  What will it take to rectify the situation?  What do our forces need?  What do the Iraqi's need?

Folks, this is not a 90-day wonder situation...

Go Big-  basically, add many many more troops to the mix.  Anyone think the coalition will add anyone?  Think NATO or UN will bring troops in?  RIIIGHT.  And I have a palace in Mosul for sale...   
Adding Iraqi troops is the only way.  LOTS of them.  But thats not going to happen any time soon, so it WILL take more troops in some fashion to quell this. 

Go Long- be prepared for another 6-year war, as a minimum.  Heck, we'll be in Kuwait for the next 20 years, at least, so we'll be involved in the region for the next 2 or 3 generations.

Go Home-  first choice of any troop you ask (blame them?) but they don't want to leave the job unfinished.  Pride runs deep- let them do it.  This plays well in the Dem strongholds, but makes little actual sense.  How about asking any of the neighbors?  Think Kuwait wants us to leave anytime soon?  Or Turkey?

Barak Obama even weighed in on this.  Man, I hope he runs.  Dems will receive a shellacking they haven't seen since '84 (Mondale/Ferraro, for those too young to remember, up against Regan/Bush).  ''Pull out US troops to the areas surrounding Iraq'' is his stance.  Go home, in other words.  Cut 'n run, folks.  From a guy who wouldn't know a beret from a Barat.

None of these is a 'solution', per se.  None address the root cause of the conflict, namely sectarian one-upmanship among the militias.  Remove the leaders of the militias (Yeah, that's you, Sadr) and remove hate-mongering clerics from sermonizing.

Its the Religion- deal with it.
