Looks like many Americans really don't want to sacrifice

Posted By Froggy

I don't know about you, but I find this incessant carping from American liberals tiresome, and not a little hypocritical.  Liberals have been complaining for some time that the President hasn't been asking Americans to make any sacrifices while our troops are sacrificing so much by fighting on our behalf.  Initially, they seem to have a point, and if you were gullible enough to believe it you would probably find yourself pining for tax increases and food rationing- of course that would make you an idiot but I digress.

Watching Hannity and Colmes the other night there was a guest financial analyst who regularly appears on the Neil Cavuto show, Johnathon Hoenig who made an interesting point when challenged about high gas prices.  Alan Colmes asked him if he felt it was worth it to pay $100 a barrel for oil just so Israel could defend itself against Hizbullah and contending that "they" told "us" that the war in Iraq would lower oil prices as if it was the reason to go to war.  Notwithstanding that I have no recollection of this ephemeral "they" making these kind of predictions, Hoenig answered that if killing the terrorists and tyrants that schemed to harm the US raised the price of gas by a $1 a gallon then of course it was "worth it".  He went on to say that while watching the Dow go down a few hundred points was unfortunate, it was a small price to pay for taking care of our enemies and defending America.

So which is it?  The President is irresponsible for not taking us back to the rationing of WWII AND his ill advised war is destroying the economy.  You can't have it both ways (unless you are a Bush hating lib).  This issues dovetails nicely with the mini controversy that the liberals are generating about Katrina II- the slow evacuation of Americans from Lebanon.  In my mind, if you voluntarily decide to go to a country whose southern half is controlled by a 25 year old terrorist organization that until 9/11 had killed more Americans than any other you ought to take some responsibility for your own predicament when things go sideways.  I mean if you are pregnant and decide to go to Beirut on your Mediterranean vacation with 5 kids (instead of France, Italy, Greece, etc.) then perhaps you should either blame your travel agent or have a nice tall glass of shut the hell up when you suddenly are operating outside your itinerary.  Should these Americans pay for their evacuation from their terrorist occupied vacation spot?  Let me ask another question; why should I pay for it?

Maybe the President should be given some credit for understanding the fickleness and entitlement mentality that pervades much of America.

UPDATE:  From the US State Department Consular Information Sheet dated 1/20/06

U.S. citizens who travel to Lebanon should exercise heightened caution when traveling in parts of the southern suburbs of Beirut, portions of the Bekaa Valley and South Lebanon, and the cities of Sidon and Tripoli.  Hizballah has not been disarmed.  It maintains a strong presence in many of these areas, and there is potential for action by other extremist groups in the city of Tripoli.  Tensions remain in Lebanon's southern border with the possibility of Hizballah and Palestinian militant activity at any time.

That pretty much sums it up, wouldn't you say?
