Reader Letter - "May We Be Worth It"

Posted By Blackfive

Here's an interesting email that I received.  I get a few hundred (legit, non-spam) per day, but this one stood out for the sentiment of this family:

Mr. BF,

I am a civilian, having never served, and one of the great regrets of my life. But I realize these are crucial times, where all men and women are tested wether its in our communties or in the battle field. My family does what we can to support either by contacting our politicians (e-mail, phone, letters) and using our resources (money, credit cards) to support those causes that keep our soldiers feeling like somebody cares over here, and boycotting or not patronizing those we do not agree with.  We, and I believe that blogs and new media sources are a invaluable resource to inform and maintain a sense of sanity, especially in this main stream media world that is always negative and defeatist.  I grew up in Mexico, was born and raised there and was allowed the priviledge to be offered a job and a legal work permit to come to the United States, since that time I have studied your political system and have immersed myself in your society and community, I have a family with two small children (ages 5 and 8) an what I have been trying to do is bring them up with the knowledge and understanding that the words: DUTY, HONOR, COUNTRY, RESPONDSABILITY and SELF-SACRFICE are of paramount importance. These things I feel are no longer important to generations of young people, they are mocked and ridiculed. A generation of selfish self centered parents are to blame and have lost their way, this I cannot help or change. I can only effect change on that which is within my reach and I am hopeful to teach not only values but practical elements of life such as: HUNTING, FISHING, SHOOTING, TRACKING, SURVIVAL.  I hope that your site will continue to prosper and provide the real and tangible bits of information that allows us civilians to hold our heads up high and be confident that the sacrifices made on our behalf by people like privates Menchaca and Tucker as well as Sgt. Babineau.

May we be worth it.

Thanks,

Fabricio

Fabricio attached some photos of his family at an air show to celebrate his 8 year old's birthday.
