Lunch with Brigadier General Janice Karpinski

Posted By Blackfive

Armed Liberal went to a lunch where the keynote speaker was the former Brigadier General reduced to Colonel, Janice Karpinski.  AL was able to ask a few questions:

...I appreciated her willingness to come out and talk, and answer questions. I asked her two - first, whether she stood behind her charges that female soldiers had died because they were too afraid to use the latrines at night - because of the risk of rape - and so did not drink enough fluids...

Go here to read her answer and AL's thoughts about her claims that Abu Ghraib was not her responsibility and a cover-up by Intelligence and our Government.

Update: A.L. wants my opinion.  I think that there was no cover-up.   I think that Janice Karpinski was a disgrace to the uniform and probably the worst example of leadership of our generation, and she should have accepted responsibility.

I think that A.L.'s analysis of the way the photos were handled is dead-on - that the evidence "suggests" that the spooks were not involved.

» Leadership at Abu Ghraib from Dadmanly
I share Blackfive’s opinion of Karpinski and how she dealt with what was surely a bad situation made worse by extreme failures of leadership. (Hers, among others.) I remember well when news of AG broke, and to say reports infuriated me would be grand u... [Read More]

» Remember Janice Karpinski? from Pros and Cons
Blackfive does. So does Armed Liberal. She does not come off terribly well. That is as it should be. She was a terrible commander in peace-time and under serious stress. While she is not directly responsible for the conduct of her troops insofar as s... [Read More]
