Bush authorized classified leak?
Let's hold on a minute here rock fans.
The celebratory attitude of the left should be the first tip off. The story, so far, goes like this.
W authorized the leaking of classified information for political gain.
That is not even close to the information that came out today. What actually was revealed is that the President may have authorized the release of some certain information from an upcoming yet unreleased National Intelligence Estimate (NIE). It does not identify what information this was and whether it was even classified, much of the document is not. Even if the info was once classified, W has the authority to declassify information if a determination is made that it's release is more advantageous to our country than it's continued secrecy.
This would make perfect sense if a news outlet, like say the New York Times, was flagrantly misrepresenting something of vital importance and W decided that declassifying the info to correct the distortion was important. He is supposed to make those kind of judgments, and if he did, odds are it was in response to lies and perfidy from the NYT.
Now the jackals are in full throat. My beloved Cap Times ran wild and used the confusion of much of America to imply that W decided to endanger our security, or any number of covert operations for political gain. What a pile of dung. Oh and while they are enjoying calling it a leak, that is hardly correct. That would be an unauthorized disclosure, generally by a disgruntled employee, this was, probably, an authorized disclosure designed to counter the lies told by other jackals.
But hey, you have to give the left credit for staying on message.
