What the Aviators did on Tuesday
Just thought I'd send a shout out to the flyers...in case you wanted reassurance that the fixed-wing aviators (and their air crews and ground crews) were working a full day.
I can only imagine a good buddy of mine flying his F14 responding to a question about a summary of his flights, "Heehee. We flew. Boom...Boom."
Air Power Summary - 8 February, 2006
Centcom PAOSOUTHWEST ASIA - Coalition aircraft flew 55 close air support missions Feb. 7 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. These missions included support to Coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities, and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities.
United States Navy F-14s provided close air support to Coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces in the vicinity of Balad. TheF-14s expended a precision guided munition against an enemy position with successful effects.
United States Air Force F-16s and U.S. Navy F-14s and F-18s provided close air support to Coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces in the vicinities of Al Musayyib, AlTaji, Balad, and Ramadi.
In addition, 12 U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy and Royal Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, U.S. Air Force fighter aircraft performed in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.
In Afghanistan, Coalition aircraft flew 20 close air support missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. These missions included support to Coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities, and route patrols.
United States Air Force A-10s provided close air support to Coalition forces in contact with enemy troops in the vicinities of Asadabad and Bermal.
Five U.S. Air Force and Royal Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan.
United States Air Force C-130s and C-17s provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq, and the Horn of Africa. Approximately 185 airlift sorties were flown, almost 345 tons of cargo were delivered, and close to 2,805 passengers were transported. This included approximately 5,700 pounds of civic aid air-dropped in central Afghanistan.
Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada, and the Republic of Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF...
