Protect Afghan Kids This Winter - Part I and Part II

First of all, I want to thank all of you for your tremendous support and commitment. In the last two months since I asked for children’s winter clothing, I have received and distributed over 1000+ items. This type of effort is a testament to the will and incredibly generous nature of our nation.

I would like to fill you in on my current situation here in Kandahar. The unit that I support, 3-319 AFAR 82d Airborne, is out of Ft. Bragg, NC. It looks like they, along with most U.S. Forces in our region, are set to re-deploy to the States in less than 60 days. We are being replaced by Canadian and British Forces. I will remain here for a while after, but will not have the military assets to distribute the clothing. I have three options I would like to present to you:

1) Continue to support this region (Kandahar province) through an Afghan Children’s Agency. You would be working directly with an Afghan organization that would be able to distribute.
2) Continue to support this region (Kandahar province) through the Canadians. You would ship directly to “my counterpart” in the Canadian Army, Major King. He is a great guy!
3) Continue to support in a different region with U.S. Forces. 10th Mountain Division will be here in two months and I can coordinate a hand-off in 60 days.

The first option is preferred. We want the Afghans to be able to operate without US or Coalition Military support – so we can get the troops home for good!

Let me know what you would like to do and I will forward you the appropriate information. As of 10 January 2005, please do not send any more items or packages to my address. Thank you so much for your support of the children in this country.
