Walkin' in a Sniper Wonderland

Every year I get caught up in the holiday spirit and end up singing one of my favorite carols around the house, and every year my wife gets mad at me. Reason being it's an adaptation of Walkin' in a Winter Wonderland and the lyrics while not profane, do discuss unpleasantries.

I sing it because it cracks me up and has since the first time I heard it, she gets mad because it takes a lovely song and juxtaposes horrible images. Exactly I say, and there we part opinions. The type of humor in this is called gallows humor or whistling past the graveyard and it occurs many places, but the military has always had a goodly share of it. Easy to understand why, when instead of a jammed copier screwing up your day, you could be blown into your component molecules. Trivializing or joking about the horrifying possibilities you may experience, or even be the cause of, is a way to maintain your humanity.

The link is a quick bit, with Uncle J singing, I could only remember the first verse though. If anyone has similar examples I would enjoy hearing about them, but remember Blackfive's Mom reads the blog  (Thanks for the endorsement, hope I didn't just lose it) so keep it clean, or give a heads up if there is naughtiness at a link.

I anxiously await both the gut laughs and the outrage, ain't free speech great? Plus I had to redeem my cred as a barrel-chested freedom fighter after posting kitty pics. ( And I didn't really have my daughter sing it at school, although given the political leanings of some teachers that could have been priceless) If you poke around at unclejimbo.com be advised there be profanity in some pieces as it is not active, more a dumping ground for stuff like this.
