Dog walking deliberations
We had a perfect fall day here in Madison, WI, the kind that reminds us why we put up with February and March. 65 degrees, half the leaves on the ground, the other half still blazing in the trees. My wife's best buddy is visiting and she has a dog that may be the most pampered pitbull on earth. She is married, but no kids and this dogger has filled in nicely. He has 8 or 10 different sets of clothes, and was a pumpkin for Halloween, Dozer would make a good poster hound for his breed.
All the necessary elements were in place so I leashed him up and we headed for the woods. A good walk is a guarantee, but a better one involves a close up with one of the pair of hawks that live in the 3 or 4 acre greenway that runs behind our house. I walk the woods because I work sittin' on my butt in a windowless room all day and if I didn't I would snap.
I try to take advantage of the complete dichotomy between my office and God's office to refill my earthy goodness reservoirs. Thus far in my life nobody has had a religion that clears the accept it on faith bar. I just am not wired to ignore inconsistencies and make the biggest decision I am aware of based on faith alone. But walking around under bluest skies, amidst all the bounty of harvest, during the time of year cornucopias are filled, it's hard to figure this was an accident. So I just accept my current state as bissfully ignorant, but happy for the chance to suck some of it in my face and chew on it.
A good dog can make a walk smooth, a bad one just jerks you around. Dozer is way good and we settled into a gentleman's agreement that he could stop for a good sniff at every 5th major tree or so as long as we cruised between them. The Gods smiled as the male hawk gave us a good swoop 50 feet in front of us before settling on a good vantage point. As omens go, birds of prey are my top of the list so this portended well.
Besides cleansing my mental palate, I like to do my scheming of global domination once the carcass gets warmed up. Ideas percolate and the most lively gets it's chance to make a presentation, my inner Dennis Miller cuts loose a rant and it gets a grin, or not, my inner Donald Trump makes a pitch to a boardroom of skeptical execs, and seals the deal, or not. It works as the lab or gym where R&D goes on and gets pumped up, where concepts get test flown, crash and get tweaked again.
As Doze and I cruised throught the woods the attitude I adopted Friday was not just in effect but had settled in comfortably. I knew the wankers and evil clowns were still out there, but they sure weren't here and that was a good thing. I mean the worst thing actually going on right now is neo-jihadis burning Paris, that's almost a giggle by itself. No, this is my time of year in a peaceful God's country, and no idiots and infidels allowed to befoul it. Like I said, I don't know who made this happen, but if you want to get me to a "church", well this works for me, and I figure any God who's not cool with that, probably doesn't want me around anyhow. We visited my wife's Grandmother's church way out in Jawja, and I heard one of the deacons say "I'd like to thank you Lawd, for wakin' me up again and allowing to enjoy all this bounty", me too buddy...me too.
I'd like to thank everybody busy right now around the world making sure I can lollygag and contemplate my navel in safety. I hope this is a quick reminder of what you ensure and what you can enjoy when you return. Blue Skies to all of you. And the rest of us can remember Valour-IT, tell one of those support the troops by bringin' 'em home types about it.
If you want to read my last attempt to construe my religious preferences it is here:
