Countering Cindy
Andi's World has a post about a Free Republic counter-protest of Cindy's group in Washington DC. It looks like that they did a great job, and there was even a poster of MilBlog URLs. Wild. Wish I could've been there. Maybe next time I'm in DC.
One point (and not critical of the above post by my pal Andi), I really do object to using the name "Sheehan" to identify the protests. I doubt very much that Army Specialist Casey Sheehan would appreciate that. Instead, let's call it Cindy-fest or something else. Cindy-land. Cindy-stock. Anything but Casey's name.

Cindy's Saga?

I'll second that! ;-)

Anti-war protestors are nothing but a bunch of naive do-gooders. They drive me insane because the irrational cannot be argued or debated with rationally! Argh!

Cindy Sheehan is the woman's name. Regardless of what you think of her politics, she still remains the mother of Casey Sheehan. That bond must be respected and recognized. Even if Casey would not approve of her actions, the bond is still there. If not, then whom do you think Casey went to war to protect in the first place?
Family is Family.
The Left has made Cindy Sheehan a symbol of the anti-war movement. The Right also makes her a symbol of what they hate about the Left. Is either side really correct? Or morally virtuous in doing this?
The fact is that Cindy Sheehan is not the first mother or father of a slain service member to come forward against the war, or against Bush. And she probably won't be the last.
So why not leave her name out of it all-together? Call it what it is: The Anti-War Movement.

I hear you, but this iteration wouldn't have gotten anywhere without her, or her contacts with the movement that, according to Frontpage Mag, predated Casey's enlistment. So he did it against his mother's wishes. None of us can speak for him, but it seems the art of war began at home for Casey Sheehan.
Speaking of labeling and identifying, I ran across the Gold Star Mothers, Inc. Homepage, the venerable institution that began in 1918. They have a disavowal up saying they have nothing to do with Cindy's newly minted "Gold Star Families for Peace" or her activities.

In addition to Free Republic's efforts in DC, we have organized a caravan which, as we speak, is driving from Northern California to Crawford i support of our military and our commander-in-chief.
Move America Forward is providing the administrative support, the Freepers from Texas and Protest Warriors, several conservative talk show hosts and myself will eventually reach Crawford this Saturday morning for a rally and a sunset vigil for Americans who have given the ultimate gift to their country in this world war.
You can find the itinerary (which has the group, led by Cindy Johns of Marine Moms, visiting Bakersfield, LA, San Diego, Phoenix, Albequerque, Amarrillo, Fort Worth and Dallas in the next few days on the way to Crawford) at www.moveramericaforward.org.
I looking forward to hooking up with some of these wack jobs like CODE PINK, MoveON, etc, and seeing whats behind the eyes. Whether or not Peace Mom shows up again, it'll be a great opporuntity to support the President and the troops who truly are this country's Greatest Generation. Hope some of you can join us!

Patrick - It's a difference of opinion. I think people should remember the name Casey Sheehan. The way things are shaking out, they'll remember the name Cindy Sheehan. She might be anti-war, but in the end (and we can bet shots on this), I think she'll be remembered as a kook.
I appreciate your attempts at moderation. However, in this case, I have to disagree with those who would marginalize Casey's sacrifice.
I prefer to honor Casey Sheehan.

Thank-You for Caseys Story..Funny how I had to find it here. You would think the main stream media would want to report that story as much as his Moms..and I am a Mom. Casey is a Hero. God Bless him and his family and his fellow soldiers.

Cindy Does Crawford
Posted by: 1lttj | August 23, 2005 at 01:00 AM
Last night, I looked the USS THE SULLIVANS (DDG-68)
5 brothers, who demanded to serve together.
5 brothers, who went down together.
Their parents hung the 5 gold stars ...
and continued to support the troops and the war effort....
Cindy Sheehan is against the war, she was (most likely) against the war before he son died.
I just wish the media and bloggers would ingore her protest and allow her to grieve in private
Posted by: Marvin | August 23, 2005 at 06:19 AM
"allow her to grieve in private"
Respectfully, that would be contrary to her interests. She had the opportunity to do so and chose to go very public instead.
Her caterwauling is what she lives for.
I agree though, it is a shame that the MSM hasn't the presence to show what a hero her son is.

How 'bout "CIND-City"...?
Posted by: scogind | August 23, 2005 at 08:31 AM
I agree with the first of Marvin's request, that the "media and bloggers would ignore her protest." Her protest wouldn't mean diddly squat if no one was paying attention.
Posted by: Danielle | August 23, 2005 at 10:31 AM
It would be nice if no one was paying attention, but unfortunately alot of people are. Their assertions can't go unanswered or uncountered. Not answering those accusations leaves people wondering if maybe Sheehan is right. There has to be a loud, visible and reality-based response/reax to what Sheehan and her group are saying.
Bush seems to finally be reminding the doubters and critics of the importance of U.S. efforts there. I think some military visibility would be good now for a one-two punch, like Myers or Pace making an appeal to remember that troops are there taking fire as we sit bickering. There should be some way to show how destructive this "debate" is to troops over there -- after all our warrior caste is still human.

Even if the Right ignored her, the Left is praising her so, it's impossible to ignore.

Frankly i hope a tornado gose right throught their camp and leaves it im shambles this is a disgracful bunch or wretches

I appreciate any initiative against Cindy Sheehan's pathetic and unacceptable attitude, but personally I had rather see the families of the victims of September 11 taking to the streets, they have much better reasons to be angry at someone than she has.

Cindy is nothing more than a pawn for the left with money. She has no ground to stand on. Her only power comes from her blind followers and believe me there are plenty!
I have been in many blog rooms about this topic and it seems that at least in the blog community that there are allot more lefts than "serves" or "rights"!
I think that these people literally spend their whole lives in a blog room because all of their facts are derived from the vast conspiracy theories that are currently circulating.
It's a crazy world out here in blog land!!
War is hell for the enemy Cindy!

Cindy is pathetic and a disaster

Wow... A website dedicated to hate mongering. You people are pretty pathetic. You love to say that you support bush's personal private war on the rest of the world but you don't put your money where your mouths are and enlist and fight in it. Republicans historically always make these big expensive messes and the it falls to democrats to clean up the republican messes and get the country back on track. This country actually prospered greatly under Bill Clinton and it is now hated thanks to your daddy dubya. You are stupid enough to believe the bush and republican lies to the point that you don't realize that bush, cheney and rumsfeld are not true conservatives or republicans. You've been duped into voting for people that you thought were republican. Do you even realize that our sons have been getting killed in Iraq all for nothing more then to fulfill the non-constitutional political agenda's of the neoconservatives who are in power. Neoconservative agendas have no desire to protect our borders and our country as set for in the constition of the USA. If anything, the constition of the USA is (as dubya was quoted saying) nothing more then a goddamned piece of paper and gets in the way of these self serving bastards achieving their non-constitional agenda's. And you probably even swallowed the neo-conservative and republicans lies that the liberal is somehow synonymous with words like murdering, baby raping, immoral, unpatriotic, anti-christian and bleeding heart. Looks like you'll believe just about anything.
