Hero Returns Home - Major Tammy Duckworth
"I want to stay in the Army and I want to fly helicopters for the Army again. I'm not letting some guy who got lucky one day in Baghdad decide my future." - Major Tammy Duckworth, KATU 2 (Portland, OR)
Major Tammy Duckworth was featured as Someone You Should Know (please read that post first if you are unfamiliar with the Major) in December. A lot of people have been asking for updates. Al sends the latest:

Guardsmen rehab house of commander who lost both legs in Iraq
Posted Saturday, June 04, 2005Army Maj. Tammy Duckworth steadies herself as she gets out the car and sees the crowd waiting for her.
“No pictures if I fall on my butt,” she says, laughing.
Duckworth pulls herself up and, with the help of two canes she began using only a few days ago, takes small, tentative steps on her prosthetic legs. The crowd watches in amazed silence for a few seconds, then breaks into applause and loud cheers.
“It’s so good to see you all,” she says as she enters her Hoffman Estates home for the first time in more than a year. “I can’t tell you how happy I am.”
Her welcoming party fights back tears as she greets them with hugs. The majority served under her command in the Illinois National Guard, and many were in Iraq on the day she lost both her legs...
Be sure to read the whole story (click the article title). KATU 2 (Portland, OR) has more including a video...
