Help The ANGLICO Marines

The Marine Corps Air/Naval Gunfire Laison Companies (ANGLICO) provide Army and Navy units with experts in controlling (Marine and Navy) Air and Naval gunfire combat capabilities.  In other words, they are Marines with expertise in Tactical Air Control, Artillery Spotting and Naval Gunfire Spotting.  Spotting is the same as Forward Observing in Army lingo - either way, it means calling in fires accurately.  They are also trained in various methods of insertion into a combat zone.

I love these guys because they are AIRBORNE!  And some are freefall parachutists, too.

These Marines may support Army Mechanized Infantry Units or Special Forces.  They are also trained to take care of themselves in extreme environments - they may not have access to evac, medic, or other logisitical support.

In other words, they have to be real badasses with the brains to match...you can't just drop 500 pound bombs within 300 meters of friendlies unless you know what the hell you are doing...

The ANGLICO Organization needs help with raising funds to bring a special family to their Reunion/Ball to present a Leadership Award.  Here's the information on how you can help:

  The 2005 ANGLICO Organization Reunion promises to be better than ever, as it will be combined with the 2^nd ANGLICO Marine Ball on 12 November 2005, at the Sheraton in Atlantic Beach, NC.  See more info on the Reunion

    At the event this year, the 3^rd Annual GySgt Matthew D. Garvey Leadership Award will be presented to an active duty Marine selected by his peers "in recognition of his superior leadership while serving in the United States Marine Corps Air & Naval Gunfire Liaison Companies.  Read more about GySgt Garvey 

    As many know, GySgt Garvey was a former ANGLICO Marine serving as a fireman, who was killed in the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

    At the Reunion this year, we are inviting two family members of GySgt Garvey to personally present the award to the Marine that is selected.

    These folks will be flown round trip from New York and provided hotel accommodations to attend the Reunion.  How are we going to do this?

ONLY WITH YOUR HELP

    We don't solicit dues or fees of ANGLICO Marines and members of our site, because we have always been able to scrape by on contributions from the ANGLICO Organization leadership, and on the little bit of money we receive from the sale of our shirts; about $1 each.  However, this event is very different.

    We are asking for your assistance in contributions to the ANGLICO Treasury to cover the costs of travel for the family members. Simply stated - give as much as you care to, and not more than you can.  Your contribution can be made via a PayPal link on our site HERE, or by sending a check or money order directly to the Treasurer at the address located HERE.

    Please consider this important event for the family, and how much it means to the Marines still active in ANGLICO.  And of course, it will be one more bright event for a weekend that promises to be the best yet.
